I have the Radio code but it's not working...

I just bought a 1992 Vigor from my good friend's dad.

It just had some work done but his dad kept up with it (like dad's are prone to do) and so it's in great shape.

The only problem is that the radio is locked out. I have the manuals and the security card with the code and serial # but every time i have tried entering the code it isn't working for me.

here are the steps i've taken so far:
1 disconnected the battery for 1 minute and reconnected.
2 put the key and turned the car on without starting
3 turned on the radio which displays "CODE"
4 entered the 5 digit code from the card - on the 5th number the radio beeps
5 repeat step 4 until the radio locks me out

the only thing i can think is that I am i entering it on the wrong buttons?

the radio has the dsp preset #'s 1-6 (these are in a row left to right just below the display) and other preset #'s 1-6 (these are in 2 rows of 3 just below the dsp presets).

i have the code and i've verified with my friend that it's right so i'm not sure what i'm missing.

It's quite possible that the code is incorrect. You may have to look around to see if there is another code. Try looking under the ashtray, or other areas like in the glove, and center console. If all else fails, you may have to remove the radio to retrieve the serial number, and match it with the one on the security card.

I assume that the DSP display is still working for you.

BTW, what do you do when the radio locks you out? You are only allowed 3 tries.
