Seat replacement question

My leather drivers seat is a bit worn and has a good tear in it after 192,000 miles. I've found many clean passenger seats in junk yards but no good driver seats. Any one think I can just bolt up the seat back from a passenger seat on to the drivers seat I have and swap out the bottom cushion, leaving the original power seat function and tracks in place? Can't tell if where the seat back bolts up is symetrical or not...without actually pulling it all apart. Thanks for any help.

Hmmm. Not sure. You'd lose the lumbar adjustment, that's for sure. Otherwise, it just might work!

How much is the passenger seat? The reason I ask is, I had my driver's seatback repaired a few years ago. It was "around" $250 and it's impossible to see where it was repaired. But your approach might be less expensive.

Took me 2 weeks to find out I had lumbar support
Hey, it's a new car to me

I have some wear on the drivers seat, worn shiney on the left side back right at the door exit. Can that be fixed?

Sure. That's where all the GS seatbacks wear.

A decent auto/marine upholstery shop should be able to match the leather. Then, they remove the seat cover, unstitch the bad panels of leather, use them as patterns (templates) to cut new pieces, sew in the new pieces, and reinstall the seatcover.

It takes about two or three weeks for the new panels to "break in" and look original. After that, you can't tell the seat had been repaired.

The key is to make sure you get a perfect match up front, before they begin. If the color or texture of the replacement hide is off just a little bit, the repair will always be noticeable -- even if it's only noticeable to you.

Thank you. That's some good info. Thank you too woof. I'm going to look into getting the panel replaced as the wear is isolated to this panel and is too large to repair with a repair kit. Plus I want to keep the car interior top notch, replace the bad stuff if I can. Repair where I can't.

Aside...Nice forum and it's a pleasure to get everyones idea's here.

Not sure about that. What I've known is with Jeep seat covers. My dad has just replaced his a month ago.
