Thinking Of Buying My Neighbors Vigor (Advice Please)
Hi Guys,
Obviously new here. I'm looking to buy my neighbors Vigor for my mom and would like some suggestions.
1992 Acura Vigor with 64k original miles
Power everything, Burgandy, Never Been In An Accident
The Good:
1. They are the original owners and always garaged/ so I know the history of the car.
2. Always maintained
3. Timing Chain already replaced
4. Nice paint
5. Rides nice
6 Decent leather int. for a 92' leather worn but not torn.
The Bad:
1. A/C doesn't work (He was told it was the evaporator (sp)
2. Needs 2 new tires
3. ABS light is on (He was told it's the pump) But still stops fine.
4. Aftermarket radio just says "DISC" and doesn't play
5. Has some dents but I know PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) so no biggie.
Anyway my mom is driving an old minivan and probably will never be able to afford another car.
We are kind of stretched thin, but I think this would be such a nice and reliable car for her, that she would be proud to drive.
They were going to put it in the trader for $3,100 but said they would sell it to me for $2,500.
But like I said we're kind of stretched as is, so I made an offer of $2,000 and he said he would talk with his wife and get back with us today.
It's located in Tx. and I would be driving it to Il. So I would def. need to get 2 new tires and fix the radio. I think if my mom could sell the van for like $500 she could get the a/c fixed.
Please help me out with any suggestions or advice please. Car seems to run and shift fine. Is this a good price as well?
Thank you for responding. To my understanding is the part itself isn't expensive, it's the labor to remove the dash to get to the part that will add up fast.
1 response, I know there's more Vigor owners out there. I just need to know some opinions.
Is $2k a good deal, and if doesn't accept $2k, would $2,500 still be a good deal??
Please help me here or please direct me to a forum where's there is more active members.
Oh BTW: I don't know if you knew about this place, but they have a ton of replacement parts for the Vigor. You can narrow you search as well by the year of your Vigor.
my 1992 vigor has 280k miles and still purrs like a kitten. finding parts will be your biggest problem. as far as the ac problem, hey I removed the dash to get to the blower motor and I survived. good luck its a great car.
Let me first say that $2,500 for a Vigor in the shape and condition you described is not a good price but a GREAT price (assuming there are no major defects beyond what you mentioned). I have seen many comparable Vigors sell for 4,000 - 5,000 or more.
At 64K miles the Vigor is just getting broken in as well. These cars can easily run to 200K miles if maintained properly.
Lastly, I replaced my A/C a couple years ago for $350. Save yourself some money and buy the A/C kit yourself on Ebay (they usually have a few new ones). Make sure it is a complete kit that includes the compressor, drier, and o-rings. Then have a mechanic install it. The only issue is that there may be no warranty if you provide your own parts. To save even more money you could buy the kit used on Ebay, but I would suggest buying a new kit because is it really worth the risk to buy a used one that may or may not work (and for how long)?
This is definately a GREAT buy! I've had my 1994 Vigor for about a year now and absolutely love it. It has anything you need, power, luxury, anything! The ONLY issue that I've had is with the transmission but I don't think your mom will drive it the way I do. The only thing is that the Vigor really likes to run on premium gas. It works with regular but you get a smoother ride and better mileage on premium. For 2500 though. BUY IT. I'm going to put like 10 into mine, I LIKE IT THAT MUCH
Another note. You were asking about the price. To give an example, If I found a Vigor the same as you're describing. I'd buy it for 4,000 today. 2,500 is a fantastic deal and 2,000 is an absolute STEAL!
2500 is great. I paid 5 k for mine with 100k miles on it.. and was/is in perfect condition. had for two years now and my clear coat is coming off in some places.. BUT the gas is expensive. Should only put premium in the tank... and the parts ARE pretty hard to find. I just replaced my control arm w/ lower ball joint (only needed the joint but they come as one on the viggy) and it was SPENDY AND acura told me it was the last in the US that anymore would be backordered....
Car 1: '93 Vigor
Car 2: '92 Vigor
Car 3: '92 Vigor
Sounds good for a well cared for Vigor.
As you may have already realized, there is not much of a Vigor presense. There are a few other communities, you can search my posts if you're interested in hunting them down.
Re: A/C If it is indeed the evap that needs to be replaced, you'll be looking at a hefty repair bill of over $1G in labor, and many broken parts to replace as the entire dash will need to be removed. A conversion may be in order, due to the fact that it would probably be still on the R-12 freon system.
