2009 Hyundai Genesis Test Drive: Big Lux, Few Bucks—but Sporty? Not So Much
Snippets from a Popular Mechanic article.
"NAMYANG, South Korea — When we first saw the 2009 Hyundai Genesis at the Detroit auto show in January, we wondered if the Korean automaker could take its first venture into the global luxury market and play with the high-end big boys. This was the same question many asked of Toyota when they launched Lexus nearly 20 years ago. And we all know how successful that brand has become. It sure seems like Hyundai has all the right boxes checked off. The Genesis is packed to its chrome gills with the goods you’d expect from other luxury cars with alpha-numeric names like 550i, CTS and GS 460. We’re talking about rear-wheel drive, an optional 375-hp V8 that will hit 60 mph in 5.7 seconds and a stellar HDD navigation system matched with a Lexicon sound system—a stereo brand found in the Rolls-Royce Phantom. Factor in an expected bargain-basement price of under $30,000 and fuel economy numbers meeting or besting most of the others in the class, and the Genesis has some serious hardware for a seriously low price..." I will hold my judgement until that car is actual out and in the market for 2-3 years. From what I can see from the history of cars...don't jump to the conclusion before anything actually comes out.
Don't forgot Honda originally came from a no namer car manufacturer that became the mainscream and was highly successful in the 1980s and the early 1990s. And then Toyota kind of became the leader around mid 1990s and overdid Hondas until today. All I got to say is do not judge until the actual thing come up in the market. From what I can see so far, yes Hyundai sucks in the 1990s and even the early 2000s, but they have became a lot more reliable and highly rated since about 5 years ago. They are actually gonna be a possible threat and competition to both Toyota and Honda, might be sooner than we all think. For all I can see, there are a hell lot more Hyundai on the street these days now. And is not like that for no reason. I am not saying I am very fond of them, but just being neutral. I have my personal favorites, which are Acura, Honda and Mazda. |

I know Mazda is partly owned by Ford, but they are still really really fun to drive. Plus I like the way Mazda design look a lot better than most Japanese cars quit frankly. Only other cars designs I like more than Mazda is pretty much Acura. Maybe Honda sometimes. I still commute everyday to work with my little Mazda and that car haven't bored me yet even though is already 8-9 years old. |
