Has anyone heard anything about whether Acura will be coming out with a hybrid sedan/coupe?
I've been an Acura owner for nearly twenty years now, but only on my second car ('88 Legend LS, '99 TL). Now I'm starting to look around for a full featured hybrid (sun roof, navigation, state of the art electronics, leather, wood trim, the usual Acura features, etc.), but no one seems to offer one in the $40K price range. You can go low end with the Prius (no sun roof), or high end (over $100K with all the amenities), but nothing in-between. I'm taking a look at the Nissan Altima Hybrid (but it uses NiMh batteries vice the latest LiOn), and it's a pretty boring car, as is the Prius. Also, I'd like to move down to a coupe (two door), as I'm entering retirement and want a smaller, but full featured car. The TSX coupe would be nice, if it offered a hybrid variant. |

I doubt that fuel efficiency is in Acura's worries at the moment, all they are thinking of is ugly grilles.
but the TSX is 4 cyl and shud be decent on gas. they cud make a hybrid of that, but I doubt they will really consider it, atleast not anytime soon.

Honda is marketing themselves worldwide as a leader in fuel efficiency. Problem is their hybrid designs have not sold particularly well. We'll see.

Civic hybrid didn't sell all that poorly.
The Camry hybrid is actually a pretty decent car. My sis in law just bought one and I'm impressed with it. Followed her for about 100 miles a month ago and that thing didn't bog down on the hills and kept a steady 80 mph on the freeway.

Well the Prius hybrid actually got pretty decent power too. Heck, it can even pick Hwy speed better than a lot of the compact cars that got engine smaller than 2.0 L. I rode in one and I m impressed with its power too. Civic hybrid on the other hand, got like no power. And fuel economy is not as good as prius. Naturally, it make sense to me why Prius sell so well (except for the fact that is so damn ugly).
And I probably prefer Acura rather not make hybrid atm because look at Lexus Hybrid, their mpg for a hybrid is sad. I even wonder if their hybrid is even hybrid at all. Lexus only got hybrid for GS, LS and RX, and all those don't even have a mpg as good as a regular compact cars. I thought the whole purpose of hybrid is fuel economy, what the heck is Lexus thinking, making hybrid with more power instead of saving gas. Especially LS hybrid, over $100K and fuel economy is worse than any V6 luxury sedan I can think of out there...who the heck in the right mind will buy that...LOL...other than u r super rich and got nothing better to spend your money on. |
