Spy Shots: 2009 Acura TSX
Filed under: Spy Photos, Sedans/Saloons, Acura, Honda
Yesterday, Ben Stewart over at Popular Mechanics had a close encounter of the prototype kind while spending some time on the Angeles Crest Highway in So. Cal. He caught a glimpse of a camo'd current generation Accord sitting in a local lot and, knowing that it could be driven away at a moment's notice, began snapping pics of the moribund mule. Now, an Accord sporting an ill-fitting bra is nothing to get too excited over, until Ben figured out that it's actually the next generation Acura TSX in drag. Supposedly, underneath the body panels is the "new" TSX chassis, necessitating those awkwardly flared fenders, housing 225/50ZR17 tires. He came to this unlikely conclusion after noticing a few other TSXs following the mule (comparison testing) and when he got back to the office, he made few calls. Turns out that the new TSX will be based off the European Accord platform that came out a couple years back. It's likely that Acura will use the turbo mill that's found in the new RDX in the new TSX, with the option of sending power to all four wheels. What's it going to look like you ask? Less crease, more swoop is the short answer. But if you need a bit more detail than that, check the Honda Sports4 Concept that debuted at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show. Nothing really new. That's a pretty welll disguised TSX though...
The Euro Accord platform is getting an update at the same time. The TSX has always been based on the Euro Accord. |

for the love all holy in this galaxy, honda better not uglify the tsx with the looks of the current generation accord.
in fact, im going to ignore this thread and just hope the way the accord coupe is going, the tsx and other honda/acura cars follow suit. |

But I also saw the Mugen Si concept. It's sick! I just hope Honda can keep up since there is no Type R here in the states to compete with the other names...

New to the forum and have been waiting for the next TSX to make it's debut. I have been all over the net trying to dig up any information on it & have only come up with the obvious speculations: It will be employing the Advanced VTEC engine (turbo 2.4L), Sports4 concept body/interior, & SH-AWD (since Acura is trying to become a true luxury division). I even read on one site where a guy claims to overhear a conversation from some engineers, that it may possibly go to a V6 considering it's based on the Accord platform. What I haven't found is any definite information on what to look forward to when this vehicle arrives. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have driven the current model but there is no way I would pay $31K for a 4-banger unless it was truly special. The combination of the turbo A-VTEC and SH-AWD appeal the to me the most, since the new engine gives more torque as well, we may have an awesome A4/Impreza/Evo/Speed6 fighter.
