Prologue
As everyone knows, it's not a full game. Damage is missing. Apparently, modding is missing somewhat (I hear it comes along later). Not sure about painting, etc. Having played other race games, RR7, Motorstorm, Prostreet, and Carbon, this is the first to have a penalty system. And THIS is one of the biggest complaints, it seems.
The system is enforced by cutting your HP / speed by a certain percentage for a certain amount of time. Problem is, sometimes it isn't even something you did wrong. Sometimes, some guy hits you and both of you get penalized. Lots of talk about this one for online play. In offline play, apparently the AI is fairly immune to it. The cars seem more realistic, to me, in Prostreet. Driving, I mean. Music. Well, I don't know what made the creators decide on European elevator music when off the track, but it sucks after about the 3rd time hearing it. OK, maybe after the 2nd time hearing it. There is some good, so don't get me wrong. In-car is pretty awesome. Car sound / engine sound is good. Tracks are nice (and the variations of each they offer). The controls (controller) can be modded more than any other game I've played. Replay is probably the best I've seen. After all, some racing games don't even have replay. But this one has zoom on it. Sometimes, it looks real !

That penalty system seems bogus... In forza if you hit someone else it penalizes your lap time, but nothing actually happens to your car. You can still win a race even with the shittiest lap time.

Just a sample of the replay. Understand this was pulled off the TV with the camera, offloaded to MOV, pulled into ProSho Producer, and uploaded to Youtube with the usual degradation.
(forgive my P&S camera for trying to focus during the video capture)

So, for the few races one could choose any car and with the money I had, it was a pretty good choice. One requirement was an Integra Type R so I had one of those by requirement. Which, actually sucked on the Eiger. Required to by a Skyline, too. I just ran the Mazda as a car I knew ran OK for the track I was doing the demonstration on. The sound had to be picked up from the amp and I had it turned down, so one needs to turn it up to hear it better. There is definitely a difference between engine sounds. Almost every car, it seems. Also, by the time it went through all it did, the pic doesn't do justice to what you really see in high def. For one thing, the contrast suffered.
