Got a D40
My friend sold me his used D40 for $250 and Im really starting to like this camera. Whats even more awesome is that I can use my old lenses from my Nikon F3. I have a micro-nikkor 55mm lens that I have always used for macro shots so I am going to upgrade that lens to the ED series. I found one for $500 but thought it was a little pricey
Are there any other lenses that are as good as nikkor lenses?

The lens I currently have on is an AF-S 18-55mm 3.5-5.6. I am looking to shoot macro shots for labels of products (got a job that requires this) and probably plants and such on my free time.

Well you can use your current 55 macro but it won't meter on the d40.
Alternatively, there are a few macro lenses that AF on the d40: the new nikon 60 2.8 AFS micro the nikon 105 2.8 AFS VR micro the sigma 150 2.8 HSM macro Off the top of my head. These all work very well as portrait lenses as well. |

Yeah, my old micro-nikkor works great but I always have to guess and check to see how the exposure came out.
I'll check the Sigma out soon, nikkor lenses are kinda out my price range for right now Thanks for the help spyder.

Besides Sigma, I think some Tamron lenses get pretty good reviews. BUT, if you're going to be making money off macro shots...why not just go ahead and bite the bullet for that Nikkor lens?
(just a thought)

Yeah, I could buy a Nikkor lens but I would have to wait a couple weeks to afford one and I have a shoot later this week. So, I either use my old Nikkor lens for the shoot and save up for a new one or buy a Sigma this week. What path should I go?

Decisions, decisions. I think this shoot I am doing is going to be only short term. However, if I plan to move on to other projects, I might as well cough up for the Nikkor lens where I know reliability will always be there on the shoots. Nikkor lens it is then.
Thanks Chuck ![]()

There is a lot of stiff competition in photography but I got the ambition to do it.

Just FYI -
The sigma 150 is regarded as one of the best macro lenses. Don't think oh it's a sigma, it's not as good as the nikkors. It's incredibly sharp and great for macro work. |

Is the lens you're talking about?

Does Nikon even make a 150mm lens? I looked on their site and only found a 200mm. That sucker costs over $1500
