**edit: after looking at the pics again, the gold matches the car color

Yeah, I had some gold paint leftover from painting my calipers, so I decided to do the battery cover gold as well.

so how did you do it? i assume you just used maybe some sandpaper to scuff it up a bit to make the paint adhere better, painted it, and clear coated?

and that's just off the shelf spray paint?

Yeah, I used an automotive 3M scuff pad then I used Duplicolor Metalcast Groundcoat first then I used the metalcast color itself.
