New to the board and need some info
I've been thinking about trading in my car and getting a NSX so I wanted to know how reliable they are and what matinance cost look like. It will be an everyday car so I don't know if anyone can really help me out because all the NSX's I see have less than 30k miles on them. Also what so the insureance rates look like on the NSX. Thanks for the help.

Hi Tim, as a mod here, just wanted to welcome you to Acuraworld!
I wish I had a NSX...but alas I do not, although someone with one will chime in! Enjoy your stay and look around! haf ![]() |

If you are familiar with Honda/Acura products, I can give you a brief rundown on my experience. So far the maintenance cost of the NSX has been just a little higher than my previous Acura Legend, which should be comparable to the current RL and TL-S versions. Insurance is only $12 more than my Legend per month at $88/month. This is for full coverage 500 deductable. As with any car, reliability depends purely on the condition and history. However, it is a Honda and is as reliable as any other Honda out there if well taken car of. The early 91-93 models do have some minor issues that you will need to make sure has been corrected or it will cost you a lot of money to fix. The correction is cheap though. For example, the 91-92 and some 93 has an open sided mount holding a plastic box for the window regulator. This part tends to break and the fix calls for a new window regulator that cost about $1500+. However, if you replace it with an aftermarket product called the "Fix-it-Thingy" made by specific NSX venndors it will cost you $16 for the a pair and can be installed yourself. Anyway, go to NSXPrime.com and check the FAQ for all the info you need

ChrisK's reply above regarding insurance might be more helpful than my situation. My NSX is not classified as my primary vehicle. However, when I was buying the car, I did compare insurance rates in equivalent situations with an early model Lexus SC400, and they were very similar.
Scheduled maintenance costs have been slightly more than my TL (but not much), but I have had to get additional things done since the NSX is slightly older (i.e. I changed out my timing belt and clutch....Not too cheap. ).Finding a mechanic that I am comfortable has been the difficult thing. I don't feel the local (San Diego) Acura dealers have technicians that are competent enough to work on an NSX, so I have found independent mechanics that are known and recommended in the NSX community. Being in the Southern California area, I had a number of choices which made my selection a little easier. Even better, these "more qualified" NSX techs don't gouge the owners in labor rates. ![]()

Thanks for the help, I just thought the insurance would be a lot more since the car is aluminum so I'm glad it's probably not that much more than my car now. The only problem I can see me hving is finding someone to work on the NSX because there is only one acura dealer in NM and who knows about the indpendent mechanics so that could be my only problem. But more than likely it looks like I will be posting picks soon.
