![]() This is truly an enthusiast's daily driver, but with manufacturers like GM putting out 450bhp in the old fogey Cadillac benchmark, Acura needs to put the pedal to the metal.

It gets good reception by the journalists...but it doesn't sell. Very few ppl will pay that much for a car with just 290hp. Unleash the beast already honda!! Silence the critics with a giant hammer!! (hp - lots of it)

I don't think those are official numbers. I think I read somewhere about a electrical motor assist to add another 100hp.

The electric motors where part of the Dualnote concept car and will more than likely NOT be in the next NSX. All is still speculation. 300HP is just a guess thrown out by the magazines. It will likely have about 330-350 or more. Again, I too am just speculating.
Finally, everyone like to see big HP on paper, but does it really matter what the HP is if the car performs? Time and time again the reviewers of the NSX mention how it performs like a car that has more than its stated 290HP. Why? Because peak HP is not the only importent factor. I don't claim to be any expert or even half way knowledgeable on the subject, but the NSX torque is so nice and flat throughout that rev band that it must play some role in its performance. Would anyone believe a 290HP car can run the 1/4 mile in 12.8 seconds or 0-60 in about 4.5 seconds? Granted, this is among the best available times for an NSX-R, but it too is still rated at 290HP. Would any of you complain if the next NSX ran low 12s in the 1/4 and low 4s in to 60? What if we then learned it only had 350HP, would we all call the new NSX underpowered then? How many other cars currently can run an occational (I say occational because only a few reported examples of 12.8-12.9 times have been recorded that I know of for a stock 3.2 NSX) sub 13 second 1/4 mile with 290HP? The way I look at it, Honda has always release its next generation car in which it performed better than its previous years. If the current NSX-R can run a 4.5 0-60 and a 12.8 1/4 mile, I'm thinking the nest NSX-R will perform a lot better than that. My guess is 4-4.2 0-60 and 12.3-12.5 1/4 miles. This would mean a USDM version could be a solid 12.5 car and maybe better. Again, I'm just guessing here, but I have no doubt it will be at least a mid 12 second car. I also believe that can be done with 350HP V6 and the 2800lb weight. |
