Seriously though. the choices are not comparable. I can't choose two S200s because what would I do with two of them? A single one alone IMHO is not on the same level as the NSX. The M5 is a great car, but it really isn't a sports car. Drive an NSX and you'll know what a real sports car experience should be. It may not be the fastest thing, but it deginately gives you a racecar feel. Nissan Skyline is another great car, but it too is not a sports car just like the M5. It can be made blindingly fast, but handles great with the AWD, but again, drive a mid engine sports car and you'll know why people buy the NSX. The LS430 is a Luxury 4 Door Sedan. A good car, but I rather have the GS 430. Dodge Viper is a car for only people who want raw HP. Its not for me. The rest of the cars are just not my style. As for the quesion if the NSX is worth $90K. Well, the MRSP is around $89K, but nobody really pays $89K brand new even for a 03. People have generally paid about $73-$78K for a brand new current NSX. Now the question is, at $73K, is it worth the price. Or, is an M5 worth the $70K price? For me, $70K is not worth the price for an M5 even though I would love to have one. I rather buy the E39 540i 6-Speed and modify it to my personal taste and needs. |

Sadly, the only mid-engine car i've driven is the 94 mr2 turbo. certainly a different feel but that ride on that car was very bouncy. i didn't like that at all.
i'm curious about the nsx, but honestly, the M5 is more of what i'm after - an executive sedan gone mad. i almost leased the 540i 6 speed this year, but decided against it and bought the cooper S which is bar none the most fun i think you can have on 4 wheels from a purely handling perspective. |

Don't really like any of those choices.
For 90k, I would chose from this list: '94 Porsche 3.6 Turbo and pocket the extra $20k '88 Lamborghini Countach and save $10k for maint. '97 Ferrari 355 GTS and save $10k for maintenance '93 Ferrari 512 TR and pray it doesn't break '00 Aston Martin DB7 (with the 420hp V12) '98 Lotus Esprit V8 Turbo and save $35k for maintenance '95 Lotus Esprit S4S and pocket the extra $55k. '03 Maserati GT '97 NSX-T and pocket the $35k difference Now if I needed a 4-seater, I would probably get 1. 96 Ferrari 456GT and save the $20k for maintenance Last edited by WilliamT : 12-10-03 at 07:46 PM. |

this is a silly question... Of course it's worth it... It's just not worth it to you. This is obviously a hypothetical question because the person that buys a brand new $90G's NSX would probably not limit themselves to owning just an NSX.
Besides, there are plenty of cars that are much cheaper than an NSX that are just as impractical for the average car buyer... When considering an NSX using an average person's financial situation, the $90K IS rediculous... only becuase for the average person's financial situations, there are better things to spend $'s on... value is all relative to the individual buyer... a single person making a decent income may buy a $400,000 2 bedroom loft in the city, whereas a family of four would ridicule that decision and opt to spend the same amount on a larger home in the suburbs. trying to assess a value figure to the NSX is feeble, becuase on paper there are much better values (corvette comes to mind) but there are many intangibles in car buying and it is imposible to account for them all... I DO think the NSX is worth the money... I can stack all the good things about the NSX into a pile that looks bigger to me than the bad things about it... and that's all that matters. Your piles may come out different... if so, don't buy it. ![]()

Another thing that people are forgetting is the resale value of a used NSX. The price seems to fall quickly for a few year old NSX, but they all are hitting a bottom and not dropping to far below that. My friend bought his 92 NSX back in 99 for a little over $30K. I later bought his NSX for a little over $30K. If I sold my NSX today, I could probably get close to the same price as I paid for it. If I wanted a quick sale, I could sell it for $28K-$30K and I guarantee someone will buy it. Most NSX owners that bought used have been practically selling them again (If they don't keep it) for for nearly what they paid for it. I have the original out the door sticker for the 92 I have and it was $65K. I's say it held its value very well.

when you look at acura's line up, it seems like all the cars are relatively cheap. (im about to get a 04 tl, and i cant find anything that compares horsepower, looks, and feature wise, in the same price range, to that car) how come the nsx seems like your paying way to much and not getting enough and everything else in acura, even hondas line, seems like your getting a lot for the money?

What other hand-assembled mid-engined exotic sports car can you buy for the same price? One visit to the factory (or even watching a video of the production line) and you'll see the meticulous attention to detail that each NSX receives. Each engine is assembled by one master technician. The body panels are attached and hand fitted and adjusted/sculpted to the tightest of tolerances. Each NSX when completed is tested rigorously on the factory's own test track before shipping.
What other mid-engined sports car in its price range has won so many awards and been reviewed so highly over the years? Sure it doesn't have the fancy Acura GPS, bluetooth, or satellite radio. However what you do get is a superbly well-mannered sports car designed with input from the late Aryton Senna and is now only produced in a few hundred units per year. Not to mention the peace of mind knowing that the car is just as reliable as every other Honda or Acura on the road. And even better the routine maintenance costs are more in line with a TL or Accord than a Ferrari or Porsche. Of course I may be biased, after years of sitting on the sidelines and watching (I have a 4 foot high stack of magazines and videos chronicling the evolution of the NSX since 1990) and even visiting the factory in Japan where the NSX is produced I have finally in the past month purchased a pre-owned '00 NSX-T. It was a long time coming but it was sure well worth the wait!
