Car 1: don't have it yet |
We have a 1991 NSX, and when we were filling it up tonight with gas, the gas pump did not auto shutoff when the tank was full, and the gas POURED out of the tank. We stopped the gas and pulled the nozzle out and tried to wipe it off with a paper towel, and it took a bunch of the paint off with it.
![]() ![]() ![]() What can we do??? We have not tried to get the rest of the gas off yet. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Has the car been repainted? This shouldn't happen with the OEM paint. It seems as though it got a bad paint job.
Unfortunately, I doubt that the rest of the affected area is salvageable. You'll likely have to repaint.

Did the paint strip off to bare metal? If not, it may have just been some of the tinted clear that came off.
Check with the guys at nsxprime.com; they'll know better.

Paint
That is pretty odd. I have a Berlina black 91 NSX and have overfilled that gas tank many times without any problems. Maybe there was something else that spilled on the paint and interacted with the gasoline.
Good luck, Nate in DC |
