Video of a NSX spanking a Supra

Cross post with the NSX forum. Supra guys are whining about this one all over the net. Its one bad NSX.

Turbo NSX spanks a t67 single turbo "supposedly bad supra".

not to take away from the NSX's "kill" but the Supra guy seemed a little timid... seemed like he wasn't doing too bad once he got everything spooled up... maybe the psychological impact of the NSX getting the jump on him was too much...

there are some pretty bad ass Supras out there... if that one is anywhere near as bad ass as some of the nicer ones... then that in one fast NSX.

disclaimer: street racing is dumb.

I agree but it often seems like supras dont produce real world results as well as people think.

They produce some nice dyno numbers with a single turbo but almost no power down low. You may have heard the old saying "What do a 400 horse civic and a 900 horse supra have in common? a 12 second time slip" Its an old joke and often another car is substituted in but it does hold true to some extent. I have seen many supras that pulled great dyno numbers and were supposedly "Bad" machines but the get constantly beat on the street and track by vettes, mustangs, STI's etc.

When they get beat they always pull something like "race me from 80 mph" "I wasnt spooled up" "if I had race gas and turned my boost up".

The machine may pull like a freight train from 90-140 but starting a race at those speeds is moronic and doesn’t prove anything anyway. Look at 99% of the supra videos on the net they are all from 50+ mph rolls. Then they bitch about the other car not going from a roll. Why should the other guy race from a roll just so you can can perform well?

I feel a person shouldn’t have to make excuses for his cars performance at any speed or rpm. I have also met and known several supra owners who crank the heck out of the boost and run race gas for a dyno but NEVER run that way on the street or even on the track ever again. Then they brag about their “streetable” 900 horse car even though its tuned for 450 horse to drive every day. That to me is the ultimate poser.

Some people seem to worship supras and think they are the ultimate car because they can pull a great dyno. I think there is more to a car than a dyno number. Real world performance counts much more to me, and it those aspects the supra has never impressed me. I’m sure I will now hear lots of stories from supra worshipers about someone’s buddies supra and how it owns all other cars. Supras are decent cars I just don’t want my performance to start at 80 mph or on a dyno somewhere. I would rather feel the acceleration off the line and every day.

Anyhow I hope this doesn’t start a crazy conversation as Supra worshipers seem to REALLY defend their favorite car.

disclaimer: I agree street racing is dumb.

If you want to read the story from the Supra Owner's mouth click the link below. Also, accoding to him but the Supra and NSX was running on low boost. In that link you hear guys mentioning the Factor X twin turbo set up which currently puts down 755 RWHP at 18PSI. Runs 138MPH in the traps. This is not yet the maximum potential either. I don't think that NSX owner (Jason) has a Factor X kit, although it could be but I just don't know. By the way, it was a friendly race as I believe that Supra owner came out to the NSX meet and hung out with them.

Seems like a nice guy.

I'd hang with him.
