03 RSX Cruise Control Help (Doesn't Work)

I had the dealer replace the valve cover gasket because it was leaking and flush/replace the brake fluid along with changing the pad and re-surfacing the brake rotors.

Got the car back and just now noticed (2 weeks after repairs) that after I push the cruise control button on the left side of the dashboard that the controls on the steering wheel don't do anything. No "cruise" light or anything on the dashboard and the car doesn't stay at a spay and the decel/accel functions don't work.

If anyone knows how to troubleshoot this or a good manual thanks in advance for the help.

I checked the connectors that looked like they were apart of the cruise control system, they looked okay, no bent pins and all connected. Could the dealer have jacked up my car while doing the other repairs?

Hopefully he put it on a lift, not just jacking it up.

Obvious first- did you check the fuses? There are fuses under the hood and under the dash, by the left side kick panel. Check your owner's manual for the locations and values.

Good luck.

I went through the owner's manual 1st, I didn't see anything that listed a fuse for cruise control "CC", on my other honda the ECU fuse is the same for the CC, so I checked that and all the others to be sure, they look fine.

I went through all the connectors, none are loose, but I didn't take all of them apart to check for bent/broken pins. I figured doing so might risk more harm than good.

You checked the connections on the buttons on your steering wheel? I'm assuming you also checked the connector behing the actual cruise button to the left of the steering wheel.

Yes,

Both connections are tight and look good. I did not check for continuity. I'm not sure how much voltage is acceptable so I didn't use a volt meter.

Well, if you've checked connections and fuses, the only thing I can recommend is going to the dealer. I'm not an expert, though.

Already done.

The only thing I could try after the above was continuity checks on the SCU (cruise control buttons on the steering wheel), which works, the linkages don't need adjusted, and there are only a few components left, none of which get a signal. At that point I threw in the towel. 2+ days of messing with it.

Left it at the Honda dealer all day and they're still working on it. They've pulled apart the dashboard to try and see what's going on, I'm assuming a ground/short of some type in the wiring, but I'll find out later I guess and post. Ought to be interesting to find out what the heck caused this.

Doesn't it suck when you spend your time on it only to realize you need someone else to fix it? I hate that!!

At least the dealer didn't fix it fast, my RSX has been there 3 days. I guess it wasn't easy for them either.

yeah that helps. If my cruise control didn't work I'd never know. I think the only time I used it was the day I bought it, just to make sure it was working.

I'm with Kev - though I did use it today on the A/C Expressway on the way down and back. Probably the third time I've used it in the 20 months I've had it.

But, it would drive me crazy if it didn't work.

Good luck - and I hope it's still under warranty!

It ended up being a reel inside the steering wheel. There was an open circuit and therefore no signal was being sent from the SCU to activate the cruise control. Cost me 500 bones, but I wouldn't have even thought to look there. It wasn't even in the tech manual from ACURA, which is why it probably took them so long to find it.

Sucks, but if anyone else has a similar problem, this might help.

I am in the military so I drive across the USA at least twice about every 2-4 years. Cruise control is a life saver and I would go nuts knowing something is broken regardless of whether I use it or not.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the resolution! $500 is steep, but I'd be the exact same way.
