Word. just keep it above 2000 rpms, and at 40 in 6th your right at 2000. there is no need to purposely waste gas. that is unless your retarted and have ungodly sums of money. the way gas prices are these days i will keep mine in the highest possible gear for my speed when im cruising

ditto that...i sometimes leave it in 6th while driving through the 25MPH School Zones...but the car is happier in 5th there - happier as in, moving with enough power to not need to downshift...
save gas??? yes, thank you very much ![]()

If you go too low you don't save gas anyway... it's not only about the RPM, but also about how much you need to press on the GAS to accelerate.

correct, I'm with Josh, @ 25mph, I'm on 4th, when I'm going 40 I go to 6th.

I do both. Save gas most of the time, VTEC some of the time. I absolutely can't do 6th below 40mph, though. You get such little response that it's entirely impractical.

I try not to drive as aggressively now that the gas prices have gone up, but I definitely don't go in 6th if I'm below 60mph.
Let me ask Cloud, Laura, and Driss though: since you want to keep it around 2000rpm to save some gas, what about if you're on the highway? Do you go like 55mph-60mph to keep the rpms low? If you go like 70mph-80mph in 6th gear, you'll be pushing 4000rpm. Just wondering. And c'mon Driss, you gotta put that supercharger to good use instead of putting it into 6th gear while going 40mph ![]() |

, actually when I'm 40 and in 6th gear, I do have throttle response because of the blower. And if I'm in 4th gear going 25 in a residential street, why would I need to leave it in any lower gear, I'm not going to be accelerating anymore in that area, unless you're a jackass that drives faster than that in a residential street, there is no need leave it in a lower gear, seldom I even put it in 5th going 25 just to see if the car is still running comfortably (yes w/ the blower and no w/o it), so why? As far as on the highway, I'm always doing 70-75 if there is no traffic, when there is traffic and we're going 45-50 on the freeway, as soon as it opens up a little, I leave it in 4th and hit it and the response is there to take it up to 75, (I used to have to downshift to 3rd to get about that same response. So you guys don't have to worry, I often give my car a workout, it needs to stay in shape. Once it gets used to being driven like a grandma's Buick, then there is no going back.
