Unhappy Did I ruin or damage engine in 04 Acura RSX type S

I've been driving an 04 Acura RSX type S for about a week. Its not my car but I have permission to drive it a friend of my girlfriend let us borrow it when her car got flooded for a couple weeks. He adores the car but is on break from college and flew home to visit his family for the summer and we promised to take good care of it. My girlfriend went to Walmart and bought floor mats big black rubber ones and she took out his mint condition OEM mats because she drives with high heels and was worried she might damage his original floor mats with the heels of her shoes like she did in her own car. I've been driving the car a lot and love it. I don't know anything about engines but I know this car has a really good one it revs high and has power. I've been driving the car really hard to be honest my right foot really enjoys squeezing that gas pedal to the floor every chance I get and pushing the engine to the red-line before I shift it. The car runs great and am not abusing it or anything just enjoying the power. I don't over rev it or anything but this happened. Today I was taking it easy just casually driving it. I made a right turn onto a main road and had a chance to put my foot down and couldn't resist temptation. So I floored it, when I went to shift into 2nd I let up off the gas and the car continued to accelerate full throttle fast. I pushed the clutch in but the engine revved up to the max the sound was horrific I honestly thought it was going to blow up. After a few seconds I am not sure how many but not long I realized the throttle was pinned to the floorboard. I kicked it with my foot but it didn't help. To avoid crashing the car I was force to keep the clutch in and used my right foot to tap the break and avoid running into another car. It was at this point I realized that the floor mat was holding the gas pedal. I tried to drag back the floor mat with my right foot to free it but I actually had to reach down with my hand to pull the floor mat back and finally the pedal came up and the engine came back to idle. The whole incident must have been about 25 seconds i could have been longer but not much longer. Did I ruin the engine ? What kind of damage could have occurred during this event? The car's engine continued to run but something seemed off with it although it could have been me nervous from the whole event. I didn't test it in anyway to see if the engine still had the same power I drove it a few more minutes and parked it for about 10-15 minutes while I went into a store. I feathered it back to the house which was about a 3-4 mile drive not flooring it at all. I do not think the engine light was on but I am going to take the car for a brief drive and see if there is anything noticeable with the engine. Please any advice on this would be helpful. Should I tell the car's owner about this will he be able to find out what happened to his engine ? I appreciate any input.

I would think that the rev limiter would have kicked in, unless the owner disabled it for some reason. Your experience may have colored the way it ran after that.

It's hard to say if any "damage" occurred, but if it did, the guy who owns it would know. Be honest and tell him.

....and a good selling point for factory Acura All-Season floor mats!

Post Turns out extensive damage to the engine occurred

Well the end result the car was hard to start the following day and one of the cylinders had a compression issue and a valve was bent or burned. I told the owner the next day once I realized the engine was not running right. It was hard to start and it would not idle, The engine lost power when starting and driving in traffic. On the highway doing 55 + seemed to have the same power the vtec seemed to kick in.
The owner of the car was very upset. He first told me that he let us borrow the car for my Girlfriend to use. He said that I was racing his car and having fun with it and that I should pay for the repairs to his engine. I told him i did not race his car or drive it in anyway that would damage the engine. He then said it was my fault if my story was true and that he was not believing my story that the gas pedal got stuck on the floor mat.. My girlfriend now ex-girlfriend did not believe me either. He also said that I was driving his car hard. I decided to prove my story I took my digital camera and put it on video record mode while I drove his car a little bit. I set the camera up in a way on the floorboard so it would film the operations of the pedals. I was able to capture several instances during the drive where I would accelerate hard and the gas pedal would actually become stuck on the floor mat only for a few moments a like 2 seconds and it would spring back up but it clearly showed my foot off the gas pedal and the pedal still down. I was able to capture several instances of this nothing like what happened the day of the event but it clearly showed it happens. When I sent him the video he completely freaked out. He told I ruined his engine even more by making the video and that every time I floored his accelerator I further damaged his engine. He said that if I was not pushing my foot to the floor driving his car hard that the pedal would have never got stuck at full throttle. To sum it up it was my fault that I pushed the gas pedal to the floorboard to many times. I abused his car and I ruined the engine in his RSX. We got into several arguments on the phone. My girlfriend even started arguing with me. I wanted to take the car out for another drive after he told me not to drive it anymore. I took it anyways did a couple nice burnouts in the parking out. I figured if I am going to get blamed for something I might as well. That night a friend of his came and got the car. The following week my girlfriend and I were at each other throats about the car and everything else. She decided we were over anyways and the best part of it is she moved in with the owner of the now ruined Acura RSX. I got an email from him saying his repairs are going to be in the area of $2000.00 and that his insurance is not covering it. He says I need to step up and cover half of the repair bill. I just deleted the email. The end.

So, the long and the short of it is that, floor mat issue or not, if you hadn't been horsing some one else's car without their permission, that person wouldn't have a messed up engine. Be a man; step up and take care of it for the guy. Too many people out there want to blame someone/something else for their mistakes.
