|
well you guys, it happened today finally, something i have been dreading since i got my car about a month ago, and i could feel it coming but was in denial...... my clutch started slipping... damnit... well just wondering if you guys knew what the best route was to take as far as upgrading the clutch, or replacing it with factory? and has anyone paid a shop to do it? a round about price of the labor would be awesome...

Personally I would just go aftermarket... stage 2 ftw. As far as price goes, no idea... just don't take it to an Acura dealer, unless you enjoy pissing money away.

I don't know about Stage 2 clutches, Kev.
A kid I know real well here put one his GTO, the spacers weren't right and the mechanics installed it anyway. He is out $5400 for a new 6MT and clutch in an 06 Goat. ![]()

A guy I know here has an 06 with I/H/E and a stage 2 clutch, loves it... says it's similar to stock but a little beefier.

An Exedy Stage 1 would be more then sufficient. Its a tad bit stiffer over OE, easy engagement, and good pressure. All in all, with parts and labor, look to spend around 600ish.

Good estimate. Spent about $700-$750 to get our CRX clutch replaced at "The Honda Doctor" here locally. (run by a factory certified mechanic who quit Honda and started his own business)

an exedy or act stage 1 is a good setup to go for. maybe get a lightweight flywheel while you are at it.
they are not too tough to install. you either have to drop the tranny or lift the motor to do it though. lots of hours of work...

The thing about not using OE clutch is that you are paying a lot for a clutch you don't know if you like yet. It's usually hard to find another RSX with the same clutch you want to install, but if you can it would be best to see if you can test drive it to see if you like it.
Unless you really hate the OE clutch or want a different performance clutch then I would go with the OE clutch. Changing a clutch is not as quick and easy as changing tires so if you don't like it then you are stuck with it unless you can afford to change the clutch again or are willing to do the work. |

do you guys know anything about this set up?
just the exedy oe clutch kit with the f-1 lightweight flywheel? i wont be doing much outside of day to day driving with some fun on the weekends... |

Well, I know Exedy is a quality manufacturer for clutches. Not familiar with F-1 but it has the features you want. Unless Dean is way against it I'd consider it.
One thing I found funny though, they say they're an authorized Exedy dealer and even go so far as to list the URL for the Exedy Dealer's page, but I didn't see them listed there ![]()

i have heard that the ACT clutches for the RSX, the pressure plate doesnt line up/or sit right.
Exedy stage 1 is practically the OEM clutch(same manf. and looks the same if u compare it) and the exedy stage 2 is pretty nice and fits perfect. another clutch brand if u want to do more aftermarket would be competition clutch |

There are differences between the OEM and Stage 1. You just gotta know where to look. First off, the diaphragm on the pressure plate is stiffer, thus allowing for higher clamping force. On the disk, while the friction material is similar, the springs in the hub are significantly stiffer.
