Thumbs up G2 Caliper Paint Review

Tested on a 02 Rsx type s ablbalba Ok lets get started
Cost: 40 Shipped - Ebay

Pictures can be found @ http://community.webshots.com/user/aznguyk2

Tools Needed.

- Car lift
- 4 car Jacks... 2 will suffice you just do front then back
- The thing that removes the tire (brain fart)

Est. Time: 4 Hours Exactly for me... but it will be shorter because i had 2 car jacks so i did the front... let it dry...for 2 hours put the tires back on carefully and then lifed and painted the back.

Everything Else is included with the kit
The kit has a:
- Mixing Stick
- Paint Brush
- Caliper Cleaning Spray
- Paint
- Stuff u add into the paint (forgot the name )
- Instructions

First Impressions:
I thought to myself, they make this look to easy to be true! And you know what? Painting Calipers isn't hard. As long as you know which part is caliper, which is bolt and whatever shouldn't be painted.

Work:
Obviously remove the tires to paint the calipers, its recommend you dont drive your car beforehand for obvious reasons... I'll summarzie what i did to the simplest terms.
- Lift Car
- Remove Tires
- Spray brake cleaning fluid from the given can (It air dries fast)
- And paint your first coat of paint on each caliper... avoiding the brake pad and bolts. First coat will be ugly and have spots but dont worry, the next coat will get most of it or the next or etc.
- After Applying the coat to a caliper let it dry for 15 minutes before the next coat... repeat as necessary

i did 3 coats on each
And lastly the paint needs to SIT for 2 hours before Putting tires back on and its recommended you dont drive for 24 hours.

Overall i've never looked at painted calipers in real life, and i found doing this was pie. As long as you've got a relatively steady hand, and some patience it'll turn out ok. The pictures may look "wet" but thats only because i just painted a coat on. I'll have more "dry" pictures soon.

Product rating
9/10

looks good...

even tho I see you got a little on the pad shims

if you are ambitious, you can taket he brake pads out before doing it for a perfect job...

also remember to clean well... most people calipers are very dirty and many people have greassy crud built up on the calipers... when I painted my calipers, I disassembled the whole thing and soaked the caliper in solvent over night before attempting paint... then I painted the sucker and reassembled the calipers... pain in the butt... but when I painted my calipers, there were no caliper paint kits readily available (did mine in 1994).

yours looks good too.
and a lot less work.

Those look awesome....why are you not supposed to paint the pads? Does it degrade them?

I'm sure a little paint on the pads are fine (actually the shim that is stuck tot he pad), I think it's more of an asthetics thing... Just a little "spill over: of paint on to the pads looks messy... but the next time you get a brake job the pads and shims will get swapped out, so no biggie.

if you mean painting the whole pad and shim area too, I guess you could...

just dont paint the rotor...
