I need some good ideas to get my 05 rsx type s started

This post is actually for my gf. She has the car listed in the title she put a k&n air intake and flowmaster exhaust muffler not exhaust kit. She is looking to do something else to the car, prolly going to go out tomorrow and get new set of plugs. She wants some good noticible power upgrades to her car that's fairly inexpensive. Really I just want some good sites to look for parts. Particularly chipping the car, but I can't find anything like unichip to put in. Anyway's sites, parts, ideas, really anything would be great cause I honestly do not know anything about honda/acura cars. I also apologise for this post to sound so boring and blah, it's nearly 2 and we've been talking about her car for the past 3 hours...kinda tired. Like I said before anything as to a direction to get her started.

to AW !

I'll let some of the other guys wade in here. They have a lot of experience with tuners. Of course, it might be a bit slow in here with it being 4th of July here in the US and right before the weekend.

One guy is a racer and many others know a bit of this and a bit of that.

And we have several girls in here with RSex's, including my wife, so tell her not to be shy.

glad to have you two aboard.

The standard upgrade path for an RSX is Intake, Header, Exhaust. Since she already has an intake and a muffler it's a good start. Getting a raceheader and full catback exhaust will definitely free some horses up. Though if you go raceheader you have to get engine mounts as well.

If you just want to chip it, there's really only one company... Hondata. There's two options. You can go with the ECU reflash which lowers your vtec engagement point, increases your redline, and optimizes cam timing for more power. It costs about $600. If you get a raceheader then I would recommend K-pro, which is the fully programable ECU. This is where you can really make some improvements. The thing that sucks though is that for the 05-06 you have to also buy an 02-04 ECU, which drives the price from $1,145 to $1,745. Though it will allow you to optimize your engine no matter what you add one to it (cams, turbo, supercharger, etc).

I buy most my parts from CRSX:
Club RSX.com
Hondata's website:
Hondata - Honda ECU Modification and Enhancement.
King Motorsports is another good website with plenty of fun toys to buy:
King Motorsports Unlimited, Inc.

Oh, almost forgot. Found this place while surfing for wheels:

Acura RSX Parts - RSXstore.com

Don't know if the prices are good or what but...FWIW.

The K&N intake is a good start. You may want to look at some headers. Since this sounds like its going to stay a street car, a shorty header maybe what you want so you can stay emissions compliant... unless you're like me and think Al Gore's full of shit, get a race header. Exhaust size, you should look at something with at least a 2.5" diameter piping. This can get a little difficult as most exhausts on the market are at 2.25". The hondata reflash is good if you're not looking to get too hardcore and want to control all factors of engine control. Also, you'll want to look into some aftermarket engine mounts.

havent been on in a while, but wanted to tell you about the greatest website known to man... Hop Up Racing - 350z, wrx, sti, 240sx, evo, scion tc, s2000, cold air intakes, springs, coilovers, exhausts, headers this website is cheaper than almost any other website i have found. get you a nice exhaust, get rid of that flowmaster, then get you a header, once you have I/H/E then get the hondata programmable ECU. this would be a good start. im avoiding getting the race header because im getting a turbo kit. then i would have to get rid of it later. just look up parts and post on here before you buy them, because then you can get first hand advice from people who may own the piece your looking into.

to acuraworld.

intake/exhaust/header are usually what we all recommend. it's the cheapest upgrades but you feel the difference after installation

I appreciate the help everyone is giving me. She mentioned a suspension upgrade, so she's getting front and rear strut braces. I'm going to be buying her a 4-2-1 header for her car. any ignition ideas out there spark plugs, coil packs, anything. I totally appreciate the help you all have given me.

p.s. I went to the site, Josh, mentioned earlier and they have a coil on plug conversion kit. Is it worth it, like I said I'm used to older engines not really familar with this new stuff. NOLOGY HotWire Coil on Plug Conversion Kit Acura RSX

Need opinion on this particular product.

P.s.s. I will keep everyone updated as to what she does with her car all on this one posting. I'll be driving it so I'll be able to feel the difference as to before and after.

glad we could help.

not quire sure about the coil on plug conv. kit but someone else can help you on that.

don't replace the spark plugs. unless, you get s/c or t/c. just clean the plugs.

what kind of 4-2-1 header are you planning on buying?

from what my friend told me few months back when i was watching him install this on his 240sx, he said "better electrical current running in your engine. your sparkplugs will be accurate and it is very noticeable gain. also, the hp gains depends on how good the grounding is."

Please don't waste your money on the Nology Hotwires. The RSX is already a distributorless coil-on-plug setup and the factory denso coils do a fairly decent job as well (they'll take 14,000 RPM beating and not even break a sweat). If you do want an ignition upgrade, you may want to look into the Okada Projects (I think I spelled that right) coils. They supposedly increase voltage by minimizing internal destructive waves (taking you back, way back, back to high school physics) and giving CDI style discharge.
