OK...working on wheels again:

NOW, Kev seems to be convinced I need to stay with 17 to keep looks. I agree 17 looks good.

But...16 doesn't look a whole lot different. AND, considering the disputed weight of stock wheels 17 or 20, the need for 16 (and the lower weight) is worth the extra gain (considering the loss of a bit of looks). (maybe)

So, here is where I'm sitting now:

I'd like to get a set of 16 @ 7.5 width. I'm thinking if I can spin the 17/7 inch tires now (in 1st and 2nd), the 16s will spin even easier so I need extra rubber on the road to give a bit of extra grip.

To go along with this, I think I'm about sold on the Eibach Sport springs and the anti-roll bars. This will give an OK daily ride with a bit of stiffness. Having the tires on the 16 will minimize that a bit. (besides, Dean runs 16s).

SO...now I need to settle on a wheel.

So far, this is leading the race:

Problem, it's only 7 wide. 12 pounds ain't bad. (BTW, Dean, I looked up your wheels... ! $3,000 ?!?!)

Anyway, I really like this wheel BUT I'd like to see it in person somehow. The gun-metal (or as another site lists it...anthracite) might be too "grayish".

Finding a wheel that's 16 @ 7.5 and 12 pounds (or less) AND silver on the lip and gun-metal on the inside is really tough!

Definitely like those Chuck, good choice.

As far as decreasing handling, the tire wall will be thicker, which will allow more roll in the tires, but if you're lowering it and putting sway bars in that should more than counter it.

On the 05-06 Type S, I'm pretty sure you can still run 16" The increase in sidewall height does add for more comfort and depending on the tire, rolling over on the sidewall shouldn't be prominet. The issue with this comes in terms of steering feel. When I run the 17" SSR, turn-in is definetly much sharper over the 16" Racing Harts. My reccomendation would be to go a bit wider on the tire (my stock is 205/55-16 but I run a 225/50-16). Chuck, as far as making sure the 16's will work on your type s, an easy way is to take the one of the wife's wheels from her base, mount it on the front of your type s and make sure you can good clearance with the brake system.

I took a look, Dean, and the distance from the outer edge of the brake caliper to the nearest edge of the (inside) of the wheel look almost identical. Not sure that proves anything, though. I could measure and see.

When you say, "good clearence", what would that mean in more exact terms? Like, more than one inch between the outer edge of the brakes to the inside edge of the wheel?

You'll want at least a good 3-5mm minimum clearance from the caliper from all sides
