really sad day for me

well first off i was driving home after work at the richmond braves game when it got rained. to keep a long story short on the way home i ran into like a foot of standing water on the highway. this water then proceeded to go into my CAI and into my engine. needless to say the hydrolocker put another notch in his belt.

i am really pissed about this. i dont have a car...college is starting wednesday...and it isnt gonna be covered under the warranty when they see my CAI. my only hope is that my insurance will cover it under road hazard. not sure about how to approach this. not that there is much i can do but is there any suggestions on what i should tell my dealer. not that it will probably do any good..

if you have the stock intake, put it on and just say you hit the water and didn't realize how deep it was... the CAI won't be covered under insurance or warranty b/c it's a modification and they'll prob blame you for hydrolocking the motor... yeah it's not honest, but you never know.

sucks man, all the best to you.

Go with what Ken said, replace the CAI with the stock one, then they should cover it in the insurance. Best of luck man.

^Don't do that^

Leave your CAI on, take it to the dealer and tell them what happened. That's it. I've been through this. I didn't tell them the truth and they didn't believe me. They're not stupid.

They told me that they might have fixed it under good will. I also heard this from someone on CRSX.

What happened to your car exactly? Did it stall? If it did, did you start it up again? Did you hear your engine make any loud noises?

well, whatever you feel is best then do it. I just know the dealership will look at an 19 year old, give him a hard time and then not want to replace anything...

if you haven't done anything to the car, then i'm not sure if this will help, but if the motor isn't seized can't you break it apart and "drain" everything??

best of luck man.

Yeah ken, you can pull the spark plugs out and turn it over, which will force the water out.

Chances are they're not going to cover it at the dealer even if you put the stock intake back on.

When mine got hydrolocked (by the motherfucking dealer) my insurance covered it under comprehensive.

Sorry to hear Josh, I wouldn't lie to the dealer, I would just take it in as is. Good luck.

okay a little bit of good news. i heard back from the dealer and they didn't mention the CAI. they just told me to send them verification that i had had the oil changed in the last 10,000 miles and they would cover it. i dont know if this could change once they start to pull the motor. they told me that oil was on the bottom and evidentally the water put pressure on the piston and blew a piston rod half way out of the engine block. i hope this all works out. i really dont even want to try to get anything out of my insurance.

Best of luck. That's what they told me too, until they pulled the engine apart and saw that when the rod blew it took a big chunk out of the engine block. That's when they suddenly decided that they had nothing to do with it and my insurance would have to cover it... It still pisses me off every time I think about fucking Libertyville Acura. Fuck them.

thanks bro, well anyways i just got off the phone and he has one more step to go through, with some higher up acura person. he said he cannot file a $10,000 warranty issue without verifcation from someone.

i think the reason that they are not thinking hydrolock is because i let my car rest a night before i tried to crank it again. it cranked and drove like nothing was wrong but the next morning the rod was thrown through the bottom of the oil pan. this made it look more like a blown motor than a hydrolock.

im keeping my fingers crossed too.

So it was two days after hitting the water that the rod blew? What exactly happened? Did your engine stall when it locked and did you try to drive it on from there, or did you have it towed?

/confused
