i think the reason that they are not thinking hydrolock is because i let my car rest a night before i tried to crank it again. it cranked and drove like nothing was wrong but the next morning the rod was thrown through the bottom of the oil pan. this made it look more like a blown motor than a hydrolock.

im keeping my fingers crossed too.
wishing you the best. now, i'm curious how did the rod break?

i am assuming because it was HOT then it got soaked in cold water. science

Water doesn't compress. On the upstroke, the rod bends and/or breaks trying to compress it. Or it just shoots out backwards through the bottom of the engine.

agreed. but i think you misunderstood me. the rod was really HOT then it got soaked with water. it cooled off very quick. which made it easier to bend/break. then when it tried to compress air/water it bent/broke.

or i'm just one stupid dude.

See? This is the reason that I am real hesitant about getting a CAI. It rains pretty hard sometimes here in NC and I just don't think the chance of hydrolocking is worth it...

Well first of all, the rod didn't break. The rod broke the block. Second, I'm pretty sure the rod can handle the temperature swing. Even if the rod did break, it will be much more due to water than the temperature. Third, it probably wasn't even that big of a swing; the water would have been heated by the "really HOT" engine/manifold.

Josh, I'm glad to hear that they're willing to take care of it, keeping my fingers crossed for you as well. Just to throw it out there, this is what an Acura dealer should be like.

not try to rip you off. remember when i bought a replacement bulb that's for the top of the cup holder by the center console? if i remember it correctly, that costs $6+ when i could get it elsewhere for less than a buck.

My car is my only mode of transportation. No one else to take me to work or to other places. So I think I'll hold off on the CAI now that I've heard so many stories of CAI and water.
