Yeah, Acura Dealers shouldn't hydrolock your car, and then make you pay to fix it.

It basically is a higher up CAI... safter, but less gains.

What's safter? I mean, does it have little or no chance of hydrolocking (the icebox that is)?

safter = safety + safer

no chance, unless your entire front end is submerged in water, then you have bigger problems to worry about

Basically it's a less restrictive stock airbox, with a big tube coming out the front and sucking air in from the grill. You know on the mugen front bumper how the grill is close off except for a small slit? That's where the tube of the icebox connects and draws air.

To hydrolock it you would have to fire a shitload of water into that hole... basically submerge the whole front of the car.

Yes sir.

It definitely does not have the gains that the Injen and AEM CAIs have, but it's also because it wasn't designed for that purpose, it was designed o give better throttle response... meaning when you're cruising around in 3th or 4th at say 40mph and you want to quickly change lanes or what not, the throttle response is pretty awesome on it.

Let's just say that to hydrolock your engine with the icebox, you'd have to do exactly the same thing to hydrolock it with the stock airbox, which is to submerge the whole front end.

Yeah that!

Not quite, that's the Mugen box that draws air from that whole in the bumper. The Icebox, on the other hand, has the tube that comes out of the box and goes to underneath the car. It draws the cool air that goes under the car.

So like Driss said, to hyrdolock with this Icebox, you'd have to sink the car in the water to do so like the stock intake right? So it's way better than the Injen or AEM CAI because a little water splash up the bumper and see what happened to people's cars. Hmm...any links? I might actually consider this.

What about the advantages of having this? Driss mentioned the throttle response, what else? Is it louder than the stock? And how much is it compared to the AEM/Injen and how complicated is the install process?

But if it sucks air from underneath the car, what if there's water splashing up underneath the car and goes into the tube? Wouldn't you be fucked that way? You don't have to submerge the whole front end of your car to do that...

pippin think of a straw and how a straw works. if half of the straw is under water and the other half is above water the straw will suck up the air because the air is way less dense than the water. it takes alot more effort for the intake to suck up water. so if water flies up the tube it will merely hit the side and drip out because the air will bypass the water while sucking...no pun intended...well anyways if a whole puddle splashes up there (ex. you drive into lake michigan or lake eerie or lake superior) your car will suck the water up but like dj said "if that happens you will have bigger problems to worry about."

i know since you're such a baller that it doesn't matter, but the icebox is well over $300 last time i checked. so its more expensive and has less gains. just something to consider.

The icebox has several advantages. For one, it's "sucking point" is a little higher up. For two, it's not right next to the wheels where it might get splashed. For three, the filter is in the engine bay. That's the most important part. All you need to do is splash the filter a bit, and whatever gets inside gets sucked up and you're screwed. This is easy to do with an AEM or Injen, and that's what happened to me. I didn't submerge it. Hell, you're car doesn't even need to be sucking air at all for those filters to get splashed. But it's much harder to splash the filter in the Icebox, where the water has to travel from under the car and straight up the tube.

The disadvantage is that it doesn't free up as much power.

actually the water has to completely surround the intake tosuck water up. its the same principle i stated in my last post on the last page about the straw. if half the intake gets splashed the engine will rev higher but will bypass the water by sucking up the air not the water. hope that wasnt confusing. im off to class dont have much time to write much.

No, it won't, because I hydrolocked without submerging my intake. My filter got splashed, the water soaked through to the other side, there wasn't enough to completely fill the inside of the filter, yet my engine blew.

Yeah it's a little louder than stock, but definitely not as loud as the AEM/Injen CAI's. Installation is straight forward, I don't think there is even a need to take off the bumper, I got mine for $286.00 or something like that.

No because even if water goes up through the tube, it will have to get to the filter itself for you to have problems. Not only that, but also once it goes through the tube, it'll have to fill up the box with water enough for water to start touching the filter, and that can't happen because: 1- the filter sits just a bit higher than the flat-bottomed box and 2- there is a very small hole in the bottom for water to get out in case it got all the way up to the box.

Yup something like that. Plus once installed the tube is almost perfectly vertical to the ground, which means it will take some serious force to drive water all the way up through the tube.

Well I don't think the Icebox is even available anymore, unless the "new" Comptech (when they re-open) offers it.

Yeah the "sucking point" or opening of the tube is located at the lowest point of the under carriage, but not any lower. To give an example, if you were to open the hood and look at your stock air box, imagine an opening in the wall of the box right under the tube that goes to the intake manifold, well that tube would make a 90 degree turn towards the ground and go all way to the lowest point of the undercarriage without going any further. Well that's how the comptech icebox is.
