Scion TC question

Last night I was coming home from the suburbs trying to get home in time to catch The Soprano's at 8. Well I hit a decent amount of traffic, so gave up on that idea but still wanted to make it home by 9 to see Entourage.

Once we got past the toll the road opened up a bit. I ended up passing this black Scion TC with black rims/polished lip. As I went around him I heard him downshift and get over behind me. As I was trying to get home I was driving pretty spirited, changing lanes and such. He stayed right up behind me, to the point where I couldn't even see his headlights when I had the throttle burried. He was making me nervous so I cut over to lose him.

My question is, why the hell was that Tc able to keep up? His exhaust looked stock. I know stock they only have like 160hp. Not that we were racing on a track from a dig, but I still think I should have been able to pull away from him on the highway from 50-80mph. Any thoughts on what probably was done to let him keep up?

Not only they have a 160 hp stock, but they are also heavier. I'm not sure. However, Scion (Toyota) does offer a supercharger from them as an option which bring it up to around 200hp. He might have that. Either that or Acura sold you a base RSX with a Type-S emblem on the back

That's what I was thinking too...even if the thing is supercharged, I betcha they just re-use the stock muffler and maybe change the piping or something.

They also make their power lower on the tach than we do, and especially if he's supercharged, that might be why he could hang with you like he did.

Yeah, i guess that makes sense. I was in 4th, so I wasn't in vtec but I mean he was seriously right on my bumper... I really thought he was going to hit me.

well if you weren't in vtec that explains it, don't we only have like 140hp or something under 5800rpm. then when vtec engages it shoots it up to 200's

Yeah that sounds about right... but remember, they're supercharged. A supercharged car not hitting 13's.

well, one thing that the scions have that we don't is torque. And also TRD Supercharger would be suspect as well.
