Yeah so I did said looking and did some experimenting, and the results were good.

Ingredients:

Your (1) or (2) 'A' emblems
(1) crappy notepad that you'll see below
(1) fine tip permanent marker
(1) X-acto knife or other sharp cutting tool
(1) pair of scissors
Some super glue or other strong adhesive.

Cost: about 10 bones

Time: less than 30 minutes per emblem

***Disclaimer: I have a crappy camera that takes at least a full second to capture an image, so some of the pictures ended up being slightly blurry because I couldn't hold either my hand or the camera perfectly still.***

Ok, so first of all, you need some sort of thin, waterproof, workable material to make the colored background for your emblem. Pink was actually pretty hard to find. But I found this at Target:

Tough, durable plastic of just the right thickness. The color reminds me of the Crayola crayon color Hot Magenta. Sweet.

Here's an isolated shot of our victim:

I used this for one emblem, but there's enough area for two.

So, bend back the binding to remove the cover:

Below you see the rear 'A' emblem I used. It has two thin plastic prongs on the back with some thicker white caps on them. These caps are what plug into the back of your hatch and secure the emblem along with the glue/tape you'll find between the emblem and the hatch...

Remove the two plastic thingies to expose the thinner prongs that are extensions of the emblem itself:

Measure the distance between the prongs (that's 22 mm):

Make two marks the same distance apart (22 mm) on the plastic:

Use your X-acto knife or whatever to cut out the holes. I just stuck the blade in there a little bit and twisted it around to kind of "drill" the holes in there. If you don't make them too big, the prongs will fit in there nice and tight to help hold the emblem and the backing together.

Take one (1) emblem. Apply liberally:

Trace around the emblem with your fine tip permanent marker:

Cut it out, combine the two, and viola!

Secure everything with a bit of glue. Also, put some glue in the holes of the white plastic thingies before putting them back on; they won't stay on very well with that new layer of plastic in the way.

Again, that was the rear emblem I used. The front one is slightly different. It's secured by two clips that I'm 90% sure you have to break in order to remove it. It will have the same type of prongs as the rear one but without the white plastic caps. So in order to re-secure the front emblem, you'll need to use some glue. Just stick the prongs through their little holes in the plastic holder (on the front grill) and apply glue to the back.

You can do this with any kind of thin plastic material in whatever color you can find such a material in. There were some plastic plates (red and blue) that I saw at the store that would be even easier (and shinier!).

As I mentioned in the thread that started this (the eyebrows one), quoted from above, the other option for coloring emblems is to actually spraypaint the 'A' itself. That takes a lot more work and is less durable and, in my opinion, is less good looking than this method.

That's a nice idea, Maybe i'll go with black on my silver TL. Was it tough to get the emblem off the back of the car?

Well, I took mine off about a year ago, so I don't remember the details, but I know it takes patience and care.

OOOO THAT IS CUTE AND YOU SPELLED MY NAME RIGHT. WOOT!

I'm hopefully getting the wonderful, fabulous boyfriend to paint my engine cover baby pink this weekend so I can stencil something on it.

Oh and I'll be going to the pick-a-part the weekend after next (will be in chicago this weekend) to get some acura headliners. I'm totally putting black genuine coach interior in my car starting w/ the headliners. imagine this only black on black:

i imagine I could do a coach backing to the acura symbol since you can get from coach the same print in vinyl.

I bet you this DIY would work...

fantastic stuff! thank you!!

Nice write up Cloud!!!

BTW... just in case anybody is wondering, as for the front "A", you'll need to remove the front bumper, there is no glue that it's held with, but it is held with 2 screws instead of those caps like on the rear one. I know this because I've always liked our front grill to be without an emblem at all so I tried it once, but when you remove the "A", you still have the black squar-ish plastic part that "A" is sitting on, so I just screwed the "A" back on.
