My father was telling me the other day that he's sure there will be at least some attempts on his life... unfortunately racism is apparently still an issue

3 held in possible plot to kill Obama: U.S. media reports

At least three people have been arrested in connection with a possible plot to kill U.S. presidential hopeful Barack Obama during his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, according to U.S. media reports.

Local TV station CBS4 reported on its website that one of as many as four people in custody told authorities that the group was "going to shoot Obama from a high vantage point" with a rifle.

The New York Times reported early Tuesday that three people were arrested on firearms and drug charges in what Denver police called an "aggressive" inquiry resulting from a traffic stop on Sunday.

Aurora police Det. Marcus Dudley told reporters that officers found two rifles, one with a scope, in the vehicle, along with walkie-talkies, a bulletproof vest and driver's licences in the names of other people.

An unspecified quantity of methamphetamine was also seized during the stop, Dudley said.

After authorities were led to a hotel in the Denver suburb of Glendale, one of the suspects reportedly jumped out of a sixth-floor hotel window to evade capture and suffered a broken ankle, according to the reports.

The U.S. attorney's office in Denver has scheduled a press conference on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the investigation.

But Troy Eid, the U.S. attorney for Colorado, said in a statement that authorities were "absolutely confident there is no credible threat to the candidate, the Democratic National Convention, or the people of Colorado.”

The U.S. Secret Service, the FBI and a joint anti-terrorism task force have joined local police in a massive security operation during the four-day convention in Denver, where Obama is poised to become the first African-American candidate to be nominated by a major party.

Lets get high then go shoot a presidential candidate. Probably couldn't hit the broad side of a barn high, or otherwise. And so what if a gun has a scope? My .22 could have a scope and still wouldn't do much damage at range.

The only thing that surprises me about this story is that it's from Colorado, didn't think racism was too bad there... nor was incest.

They aren't from Colorado... or so I read. Said something about them coming to Colorado with the specific intent on shooting Obama.

Glad they caught these guys! But you gotta admit...a couple of methheads can only get SO far with some wild scheme like that...pretty sure Obama was in no immediate threat...but we'd better call in Jack Bauer just to be on the safe side anyhow...

I was going to guess Arkansas, but after driving through Alabama last year, I wouldn't doubt it!
