Dhirens Dream....
Oct. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Deep-fried Twinkies and Snickers are
among treats gaining popularity at U.S. state and county fairs, amid nationwide concern about foods that are high in carbohydrates and fat, the Wall Street Journal reported. At the three-week-long Texas fair that ended Sunday, a fried Twinkie, sold at $3, was a big hit, the newspaper said. Fried Snickers and Oreos are also seen at various fairs, the Journal said. The concept of fried candy bars was initially imported from the fish-and-chip shops of Scotland, where deep-frying is considered an art, the paper said. Mike Redd, a spokesman for the Interstate Bakeries Corp. unit that makes Hostess Twinkies, told the Journal that the company representatives visited some of the fairs around the country to check out the boom. ![]() |
