Life Changing Decision to make - Move to AZ?
Well, my company has finally announced officially that they're opening and office in Arizona. Current employees can apply to transfer out to that office and I'm seriously considering it. It's still in the early stages, so I haven't made any kind of decision, and I won't until I get all the details of the situation... but like I said, I'm heavily considering taking the offer.
Here's what's going through my head right now:
Pro's
My family is out there half the year
I wouldn't have to find a job, I'd be doing what I already am, and keep my top 20 accounts (about 80% of my sales)
I would get to have a car again
Some of my good friends on my team are also thinking about it
It's never cold (by my standards)
I could always come back if I end up not liking it
Cons:
It's really fucking warm in the summer
It may be like my situation in Indy, not knowing a ton of people
I love Chicago
My current manager is cool, my new one might suck
Anything you think I missed? Concerns?
I guess I'm just thinking that I eventually planned on going out there sometime in my life. I can always come back if I want, and I think I'll kick myself if I don't take the opportunity... Thoughts?

Uh....where is the option in voting to quit altogether and join a hippie commune?
I'm going to vote for doing it. Why? Because you are young, single, and can handle the changes that a new adventure will bring you without a complete upheaval of you life.

kev,
is there's going to be a promotion? additional money involve? is so, then i'd say "Yes" take it. meet new people, be with your family and buy an rsx or that 240sx you've been wanting.
if there isn't any raise or promotion, i'd have to say "No". it's not worth relocating for something you have been doing for the same salary and position.
also, if it's not a lot more money, still a "No". just look at it this way. i'm sure you won't have a room mate there. meaning, more money you have to spend on the rent and utilities. also, you'll have to buy a car.
although, it would be nice to be with your family. but there are things you'll have to consider. your "Future".
also, ask the following to yourself:
1. will i grow in this industry?
2. is my salary good enough for me? or do i want more?
with that being said, i can't vote. you'll have to decide for yourself

I second DuckDogDear's advice.
I wish I had taken the chance to live in more diverse places before I 'settled down' (hahahahaha like that will ever really happen...)
Chicago will always be there...and you've got experience there, so its easy to go back into that lifestyle, if you make a change and later want to change back.

You're gonna have to find a new place to live, too...unless you plan on living with the folks or something. I'd check out the cost of living differences between the 2 cities too, just to see what kind of $$$ change you'd be looking at compared to your budget now. That's just how i think about stuff like that, though.
I say go for it!!! Will you ever get a chance like this again? and in a place where your family goes for half the year??? It would be a nice change of pace and like you said.....if you really dont like it, you can go back!

Willie - there isn't really any promotion to start. There's rumors of a 10k bonus to cover moving expenses and such... but that's just a rumor which is why I didn't list it. I would be doing the same thing I'm doing now, even have a lot of the same customers. However they will eventually be hiring vendor reps/specialists for that office, which is the career path I was planning on taking here. It should be much easier for me to do that there than here.
And yes, I have been looking at RSX's, 240SX's and Evo's out there

That's exactly what I don't want to be saying 15 years from now

From what I've looked at living out there won't be any more expensive and might even be cheaper. The places I've thumbed through are much nicer and newer and about the same as what I pay now (and that's for a 1-bedroom). My parents house is 4 bedrooms, so I could always start there and then move to my own place when I had extra money to do it.

What Peka says as well. No regrets and saying "what if?" when you get older.
