Props for American Express!

I just found out a little bit ago that someone had charged $806.51 on my Amex card for a Nextel bill.

I don't even own a Nextel phone and given that, I was pretty pissed. I called up Nextel today to find out if they had any records of me using SS# or Last/First name lookup -- nothing.

Then I called up Amex and they were the most helpful people I've spoken to in a very long time! I'm so glad that at least this part of things is being taken care of properly! They credited my account immediately and set-up an investigation.

American Express

Yup, AMEX rules. I use my card for everything cuz they protect you in so many ways. It also lets me keep tabs on my spending.

Amex is . They have the best customer service in the business. They pay for that by sticking it to the vendors mostly in the form of higher transaction fees, so it's a win-win. The $85 a year annual fee is a little steep, but considering I accumulate enough air miles for about 2 free plane tickets a year, it's well worth it.

Yeah, Amex really has excellent customer service.

Here is my story:

A couple of years ago, I got a call at home from AMEX asking if I was in the Bronx a few of weeks ago and if I moved to NY. I said 'No' to both questions and I asked why.

Someone had made 3 $1000 cash withdrawal from an ATM machine within a 72 time frame in the Bronx and they had changed my mailing address so I wouldn't notice the charges.

They promptly credited me the $3000 charge, corrrected my address, canceled my card, issued a new card at the local AMEX office, which was only a few blocks from work the next day.

I stil wonder how the thief did everything.

I like AMEX as well. Customer service is top notch and they are very accomodating. I have had a couple of encounters with AMEX, my bad of course, and they bend over backwards for me.

Incident 1:

I was in St. John Virgin Island a year and a half ago and I was at the counter to check in to our reservation. I did not bring anyother card (stupid me) and I didn't have enough cash to pay for our stay (only brought spending $). When they charged my AMEX card it came up as declined. I called AMEX right away and they told me that I have reached my limit. I was not aware of that because I had the card less than a month at that time and I lost track of my charges. Anyway, long story short, I asked for an increase on my credit line and they transferred me to a financial advisor and she took care of it.

Incident 2:

AMEX corporate card had an overdue balance (my fault again) and a charge was declined. Called them and they took care of it again.

Most credit card companies provide that sort of service, cant be liable for something you didnt pay for.

True, but Amex always has been more accomodating. I disputed a charge on one of my Visa/MC one time, and they were like - "We'll fax you this form, then you need to sign it, notorize it, fax it back to us, and we'll begin an investigation".

With Amex, they just took my information, and they dealt with it - there was no hassle on my part.

I've had to dispute two charges on cards - Capital One MasterCard and CitiBank MastCard -- both were hassle free and taken care of

You think $85 is a little steep? Try $150/year...that's what I pay for my AMEX Rewards Plus card. I will agree with you that AMEX does rule--gotta love their PPP and their BVG...

I have a Corporate AMEX with no annual fee, at least for me. I use my Discover more so I can get free money.

That's probably why they got rid of the BVG for the blue card--it was a money-losing proposition for them, considering that offering a CC with BVG and no annual fee was such a sweet deal that attracted way too many users.
