question for you all.

would you do something that pays you very well and you feel in different about that job, ie, not love the job but not hate it either.

or

would you do something that pays you good enough and you feel that you can achieve more?

Preferably the second option. However, we don't all get to do that. Most of us have to do what we have to do in life.

Even dream jobs have their down sides, Ivan. I have a great profession and a rather great job, but there are days I would walk away from for nothing.

Not at all. Look at the best lifestyle for the life long satisfaction you can get.

Ivan, you won't get "stuck" in a job unless you allow yourself to (either by creating responsibilities that depend on that particular job, or not keeping your skills up to date, etc).

I say if you have an opportunity to make tons of money - but in a job you are pretty sure you don't want to be in forever - take the job and keep it for awhile...save all that money (pre-tax it!!!! for retirement!!!) then find the job that has the best balance of income and excitement for you.

My $0.02

interesting...

i always felt that if i work in a power plant, i'll get stuck working in a power plant forever except moving up the rank and maybe jump from one plant to another.

but working for a big firm means that i'll have a lot more choices to do what i think could be interesting....

my heart is still leaning to the "doesn't pay as much" job. just the $ sign is hard to ignore

Have you figured out exactly what causes you to feel indifferent? Is it something you have the power to change? I'm not saying that money is the answer but at your young age (relatively to us geezers here ) it is the time to start building some equity for the future. I left the job I'm currently in back in '04 because of something I felt I could not change. A VP of Sales who was without a word of a lie a raving psycho. The new job offered a similar position but better money. I left in spite of veiled assurances that things would change. I regretted the decision shortly after starting new job. The VP sales was subsequently terminated the moment his contract ran out and I was still on good terms with the Pres. Bingo bango ..back here in '05 after only 8 months on hiatus in his job. For less money but I don't feel like crap coming to work either.

Bottom line it's a tough call.

I'm with Laura.

It is really easy to offer advice and all, but you are the one that has to make the final decision.

God knows there are plenty of my better paying jobs out there than teaching. Especially with the education level and professional development I have to maintain. But, office and school building politics aside, there could not possibly be a more rewarding and enjoyable job than what I am doing.

Ivan, I think it might be called, "selling out". We are all whores when it comes to money, it's just a matter of how cheap we are.

Most people in life don't work jobs that make them feel comfy-cozy inside. Otherwise, I'm betting hardly a car would ever be built or much of anything else that relies on a assembly line. They work a job that gives them the money they want/need. Some work just to survive. Others do work they don't like for a higher pay to have some of the nice things they want in life. So, they decide how important those nice things are and they either whore themselves or not.

Probably not a good explanation but, in the end, you will need to decide how much you need money or how much you need job satisfaction--and find a happy spot in between.
