The first long-distance car race began in New York City on this day, ending five days and 464 miles later in Buffalo, New York. However, in these early days of automobile racing, the determining factor was not speed or endurance, but reliability. David Bishop's winning Panhard only averaged a speed of 15mph, but it managed to make the entire journey without breaking down--a remarkable feat

Hey, John, I was in Italy at a friend's house who lived on a road in the infamous "Milli, Milli" race. (now I'll have to go look it up)

We sat out by the road in front of his house drinking Italian wine and watched the vintage cars come by. Old roadsters ! I guess why they call it "the most beautiful road race in the world". A car would come by ever 10-15 minutes and people all along the side of the road would stand up and cheer as the cars sped by. Pretty cool !

Nice kid.
Cool to have an exchange student, I think. Nice that he seems nice.

I have around six or seven in class this year. Quite a few more than previous years. They are always nice, bright, and fun kids to have around. Just increases my love for teaching.
Just that this young man and one other girl from Argentina are just characters and then some.
