It's not the kernel I object to - it's all the shit (technical term) that they tacked on to it - they're the resource hogs! All window dressing to fight Jobs and the Mac: debatable value for all the overhead it brings with it.

I still enjoy XP - but I am DOS fan at heart!

Other than that, I must agree. Vista has been suprisingly reliable. Though the security prompts are worse than the balloons were in XP.

Windows is a resource hog. You can't get away with that. If it wasn't for OS updates, then I know that some old Pentium I systems would still be running.

A lot still are running. Just using lightweight open source software. Old computers are GREAT for clustering.

I've heard of lots of people having bad experiences with Vista, and I'm satisfied with XP, so that's the main reason I'm sticking with XP. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Also, I was told Vista won't run most of the games I play.

there's a box sitting on my desk containing a shiny new laptop in it which is going to boot Vista when turned on.

I hope 256kb is enough memory.

of course I'm kidding. Vista would probably take one look at a 256k memory stick & shit itself laughing. Meanwhile I would wonder why they changed the BSOD to the brownSOD.

After talking to my people, I decided on the square figure of 433GB of memory for it.
