Asking questions about the new forum

This is an honest question:

I realize that street racing is illegal. Going against someone at a stoplight is not always illegal. Say you are stopped at a red light on a road with a speed limit of 60mph. You are allowed to accelerate to 60mph without endangering anyone. I mean weaving in and out of cars and going like 100mph on the highway is illegal, and I see why you shouldn't have people posting here about doing that. But what if it is totally within the legal limits, like you just safely run against someone. I am hoping that is still allowed because it gives us a place to compare cars in real world situations.

Administrator's opinion?

Also, I assume this forum will be moderated now?

Cool Kansas...

I live in Kansas...Kansas is flat and the roads are straight. If I drive 30 minutes out of Kansas City, I encounter highways that I can legitimately say "no one else is driving on." Sometimes, I am the only one on the roads for miles and miles. So, I urge you guys to take a look at "street racing" from a rural standpoint and notice that it is not as risky as it seems at first glance. As a counterpoint, it is important to take note that you are placing yourself in a higher risk for injury, in an instance where ambulances are not usually nearby (roads in the middle of knowhere). But, it is equally important to understand that even Kansas City's local dragstrip does not have an ambluance crew on duty except for big events. Nor does the autocross track that many of us participate at. So, I feel that "bragging rights" was a decent name for this section of the forum due to the "real-world" fact that many of us intelligently reduce the risk of accidents when we street race by going to less populated areas. In my opinion, even if street racing is reduce due to heavy fines etc...there will always be the occasional race against a highschool kid when merging onto your local freeway...one that I will always push to the limit and hope to win.

Well - we just wanted to de-emphasize the potential for illegal acts to be posted here. We have had a standing rule of not allowing the posting of anything illegal. It's a fine line in this forum specifically but we'll do our best to allow conversations and keep illegal acts off of the forum so it's here in the future.

Re: Asking questions about the new forum

Dan, I appreciate you asking this. I must however highlight a couple of statements in your post:

Quote:
You are allowed to accelerate to 60mph without endangering anyone.
Please find me a law in any state that makes such a claim. What if you're in a 45 mph speed zone?

In AZ, you can get ticketed for revving your engine at a stop light. That's a harsh punishment if you ask me, but almost every state has "hot-rodding" laws where things like this fall under.

In addition, legal or not, if it's on the street, it's still dangerous. 3am, 3pm...whenever, and Acuraworld simply doesn't want to be a board where you can share your dangerous, illegal racing stories.

This forum has always been moderated, but now a little more closely.

edit: I want add a bit more about this since it is surely will be a hot topic. The main reason behind this is purely from a business perspective. As AW looks ahead turning into a site geared for motorheads and wanting to attract bigger sponsors, we have to tread carefully. A lot of the sponsors we want to approach want nothing to do with illegal activities. We've received questions on this topic before and it's very hard to justify having it here. There are many other places to share stories like this and ask autoxcls says above, we just want to keep illegal discussions off of this site. This is a blanket rule for any forum (including the lounge). Please feel free to ask further questions so we can better explain where we're coming from.

Cheers.

Here in CA, I think it's called "exhibition of speed" and you can easily get a ticket for it... even if you stay under the speed limit... they may even cite your loud exhaust as partial evidence... the fact that it was loud as being a attempt to speed.

I think the stoplight races are illegal in most states.

though frankly i think exhibition of speed is a pretty stupid law

but yes, we deifnitely want to refine this forum. there are so many tracks and stuff around to have legal use of speed and race.

Aight, thats what I wanted to hear, thanks Haf and autoxCLS.

You know, sometimes us Acuraworld cronies like to know whats behind the issue, ie more sponsorship ect vs just cutting down the fourms. But from an admin's standpoint it makes good sense.

Cool Bla Bla Bla...

My car is faster...No mine is because V-Tec will kick in...But I have more torque! Heard this before? When I am arguing with my friends, we just go out and settle it. Find a deserted highway on the outskirts of town. Stop our cars and have someone flag us. Take the cars up to 120 or so and find a winner...then go home. I am not advocating doing this on a regular basis or in rush-hour...but I am not about to pay $20 for open-drag night at KCIR. Plus, I don't have to ice my engine or wait in line forever just to pull into the box. Take it or leave it...this is why we started this discussion forum.

WhiteAc......the main point of this is Acuraworld's position of not having conversations about illegal activities on its website. That's the bottom line here. To do that, we had to change the nature of this forum.

I see your point, but it still considered an illegal activity.
