Beat an RX-8

I'm not sure if it's worth bragging about, but...

I pulled up to a light and saw it sitting there...rolled down the window and ask him the HP. He said "238 horses" and I said "SHOW ME". When the light turned, I got about a 2 car-length jump on him and keep pulling away. At about 60, we both slowed down and he acknowledged defeat...I was feeling pretty good, but it's probaby an auto tranny...I thought I'd share anyway :racing:

If he said 238 horses then he has the manual tranny. However, you should have asked him how much torque, in which case the disparity would have been clearly evident: 159 ft/lbs @ 5500 rpm (RX-8) vs 232 ft/lbs @ 3500 rpm (TL-S).

Remember the old adage: horsepower is how fast you can go and torque is how quickly you can get there.

Now once the RX-8 is in motion and in the twisties it would be a MUCH closer race. It would be a real challenge to keep up with it.

Nice, I have been wondering how we would make out against an RX-8 but have never had the oppurtunity. Now that i know it is not worth the trouble. Nicely done Steph.

Yeah, it's a torque-less wonder... just like many *cough*Civic*cough*integra*cough* engines. I've heard of bolt-on ZX2's taking an RX8 from a stop

I'm sure a decent MazdaSpeed version is in the works...

I think there is already a better handling MazdaSpeed version, I'm guessing a more powerfull compliment to it in on the way.
