RSX got SLAMMED by an SUV!

Some kid in my class was reading import tuner today and I asked him what he drives he says he's got an RSX. I ask if it's a type S and he says "nah, cause I can make this faster". So i'm just laughing to myself going this guy is a fucking idiot. I ask him how he likes it and he's like "dude, it's so fast". I'm just going yea, okay. He has it slammed on some POS cheezy sleeve coilovers he bought on ebay. Well we are walking out to the parking lot and I ask him if he wants to have a quick run. (i'm driving my moms 5.4L DOHC navigator while my car is int he shop). The navigator has serious balls for a tank and will take out many unsuspecting SI's, etc so I figire an RSX will be a good run.

The guy just laughs and thinks i'm joking, but I tell him i'm dead serious. So we go to a little street to get a quick run in. Off the bat I have him by half a car and hold it to 70 where I let off. He is all pissed and wants to go again. Same thing but I get a car and just hold it. I'm just laughing and the kid is practically in tears. Poor kid

Does that have the same engine as the RL?

No. Although both cars have a 3.5L V6, the Odyssey's engine pumps out 240 HP/242 FT-LBS. It'll do 0-60mph in less than 8 seconds. Very fast for a minivan.

The RL's engine, on the other hand, only puts out 225 HP/231 FT-LBS. Underpowered for a luxury sedan.

The difference? The RL doesn't have VTEC.

Gotcha. Is the Odyssey engine the same as the MDX's? One would think they would put the Odyssey's engine in the RL... Still a 6 but a bit stronger.
Is the RL's a DOHC?

man what an idiot. the normal rsx is faster than the type s? yeah right, there is a resaon for the type s you know? he probably think his car is faster than the jdm type r too, ha!

let me guess, is he driving an auto vs stick? if so, that's probably the reason why he's not getting the type s. sorry man, type s is only for rear drivers who at lesat know how to drive stick

oh and yeah, the rsx, it has no tq... your car with that kind of displacement, it pulls ass

Is the RL's a DOHC?
Yes, the Odyssey engine is the same as the MDX engine (J35A)... in fact they both are based on the same platform (which the Pilot also shares). The MDX engine, however, is tuned a little differently, as it makes 265 HP/253 FT-LBS... more than the Odyssey.

Pretty much no one is arguing that the RL is due for a new engine. It's likely that the 2005 RL will have a more powerful engine... but it probably won't get the MDX engine, as the MDX is built in Canada, while the RL is made in the US/Japan... maybe the new TL engine?

No, the current RL's engine is only a SOHC.

They've been saying that for five years though... I dunno, I think they'll either completely drop it in favor of the TL, or redesign it based in the new TL.

they won't drop the RL, or at least i think that would be the stupidest move for them. they need a flagship car that will AT LEAST try to compete with ls430, q45, 7 series, s class (although the rl will still lose big time). but the tl just can't match up with those cars

Hopefully the new RL will become more competitive with those cars. As it stands now, the RL is more of a competitor to the GS300, 5-series and the E-class.

The TL is more in-line with the 330i, A6, CTS and G35.

Right now, the only way it competes is the price tag. I mean, can't they just call it quits for a year or two ont eh RL and come up with a V8?
But I'm looking at it from the wrong angle. They're selling RLs. I see more RLs than CLs, so why should they change if they're selling so many? I don't know. I think its a waste.

well it depends on how you see it. selling it of course is important, but when it comes to luxury brands, sometmies it's about the image as well.

two good example would be the mb s600 and the bmw 760il. from what i know the s600 doesn't sell really well for obvious reasons (so expensive) and to support that product line mb actually loses some money there. however they keep it to make a statement about their image. the ultimate luxury sedans

same with lexus too (sorry just have to bring it up, haha). i wish they got ls600 as well, it won't sell well at all but it would be a bolt statement for lexus

and for acura, a v8 would be a huge statement for them to finally consider the luxury market seriously
