Wtf!! A Neon!!!beaten By A Neon?!?!?! - Acura Forum

Ok as I drove down the street and pull up to a light, a yellow neon pulled up right next to me. Will at first I didn't know what the hell it was, just a cute looking car. The driver look over and gave a a nod, and rev his car. I was like, are you serious you wanna race. That car started out fast, 1st gear was 3 car length ahead, 2nd gear(80mph) was 1 car length ahead, and as we approach the next light the car was still ahead of me a little bit. WHAT THE HELL!! Who the hell makes cars call Neons anyway?? The driver told me the only thing he add was Cat back Exaust. That thing can't be more than 100horses, will maybe it weigh only 1000LBS. I don't know, but that Neon was quick. HOW CAN IT BE?!?!?!?!?!

There's one particular Neon, called SRT-4 or sumthin', that is supposed to have a 0-60mph time of 5.3-5.4sec. Yeah, a damn Neon! It has different bodywork and a spoiler, at least the one's I've seen have.

Actually I expect the Chrysler Brands to come out with better vehicles now that Chrysler has been purchased by Daimler-Benz. The new Intrepid SXT has a 3.2L V6 making 250hp, power previously unheard of from American-brand V6's.

It's hard to look at a Chrysler-brand car as a Mercedes product. I'll give them several years, but I find it concieivable that I might. possibly, consider a Chrysler-brand in the Semi-distant future.

Probably an SRT-4, those things are dipping into high 13's BONE STOCK!

under 20K too!

They actually did a good job on the fit and finish of the car, it's not your typical neon inside and out. Still need to drive one though.

Mopar Performance is comming out w/ some sick factory backed aftermarket parts, LSD, and reports of a 350 hp Stage III

all warrantied back!

So Chrysler Neon SRT-4 huh? Wow, and how many horses? THat thing can't be any bigger than a civic. It was cute looking thing too. Didn't look that fast, thought it was just like a civic with exaust.

u can't miss the SRT-4 come with the dual exhaust setup and a huge intercooler in the front...but once again it's a Neon...i wouldn't be surprized if it's start falling apart in a couple of months

Actually, it's a Dodge Neon SRT-4. It has a turbocharged 2.4L four that cranks out 230 HP. 0-60mph is around 5.5 secs.

Definitely all performance, not much refinement. Interior is better than most Neons, but still cheaper than anything Honda puts out.

King of cheap speed... that's what most reviews are saying about it.

Exactly... Dodge isn't really known for their reliability.

Wow on a intrepid??? Still can't compete with the Maxima though. SRT is pretty quick. And it's under 20K, but the interior is crap. No nice system, no nothing. I mean that's all you can get for the price.

Thats true but the Subaru STi (I think) doesn't even come with a radio.

yea, but it's prewired. They did it to keep costs down and weight down. I like the fact that it's not there that way you can pick out your own easily.

I hate neons and think they are hideous cars but I cant argue with the performace per $ ratio.

That is one heck of a fast little car for a little money. It almost makes me consider buying one just for the performance.

Why can chrysler package this in a better looking package.

1) The Intrepid SXT is not the first American V6 with those numbers....the 2000-2001 Intrepid R/T came with 250 hp stock...either way, they're still slow. I raced a 2001 Intrepid R/T the other day and it was no contest. They're slower than the last gen maximas and altimas...

2) The SRT4 is a ridulously fast car. They are 19,500 and have 230 hp and around 250 ft. lbs of torque. The crazy part of these numbers are that they are TRUE whp numbers. They are not inflated by marketing. The people are dynoing cars EXACTLY at these numbers. The car weighs 2700 - 2800 lbs. and they're running as low as 13.7s stock on street tires..The typical 1/4 mile time is between 13.7 - 14.4 stock...most are right at 14.0. My buddy has an 03 that has 218hp and 248 torque...We race all the time. The best I've done in my 03 TL-S is hold him through 1st, by the top of 2nd he's a car up, top of third and he's got me considerably. From a roll on the freeway at about 80, he pulls steadily and as we shift into 4th and lose all our power to overdrive, he's pulling with the same force up past 150...It is absolutely a ridiculous car...especially for the money...

As a note...the SRT4s consistently whoop ass on the WRX and have been known to beat poorly driven EVO 8s...
