2002, 1.7 Stereo probs & questions. Codes?

Hey guys,

So I have a 2002 1.7 EL, love it. Problem is the other day I started it up, and noticed the stereo didin't come on, just reads "CODE" then like a little number beside it. Never had this problem before, and not sure what to do. Riffled through the manual, and it says something about reprogramming the codes.

Anybody know what they are talking about?

On a second note, I have a pYramid DVD/CD/MP3 deck that his been sitting in my bassment with a sub, both brand new x-mas presents I never touched. Maybe I should just through them in there instead?

Has anybody replaced their stereo with an aftermarket one in an 02 1.7 EL, and was it difficult? I have replaced many on my old chevy cav back in the day, just bought the kit, a few screws, and no problems. But that is an american car.

Are these cars the same? never really looked into it.

Is it worth my time and effort, or is it genually a pain in the ass that may affect the computer system or screw somethin gup I am unaware of.

Thanks in advance.

i would thin your problem would be that your computer system reset itself and you would need to enter the security code thats programmed into the stock deck. my friend's honda accord did that every time we had to disconnect his battery. he then would have to press numbers on the cd changer to input the code found in his manual.

if you are going to upgrade your stock deck, i would recommend getting rid of your pyramid unit and buy something better. a low end alpine would only cost 100 bucks and will be 10x better than a pyramid brand unit anyday.

Good call. I found some codes in the manual, but they don't work. Gonna phone the dealship tomorrow.

As for my deck, you know your stuff. My buddy called tonight and said the exact same thing. basically, he said the Pyramid deck will sound like pure a$$, and it's not even worth my time installing it because they are so trebley with minimal mid and low end.

Any good low end Alipne models you would recommend? I mean I don;t need a 700000000 watt system...I just want something with good sound do I can listen to everything from Jazz to Jungle, and have mp3 capabilities (like reading an MP3 DVD or MP3 cd). There are just so many decks out there, and you can never tell their true sound in the store because of all the speakers they have.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know what an acura el is, so i dont know what to search for in terms of dash size. but after a little research i found out that the 2000 ELs were based off the civic design...so i searched for ones that would fit a civic.

But anyways, usually I get my decks from crutchfield. I dont get anything else there, so if you want speakers and subs, get it somewhere else because you can find them for cheaper. but I do believe that crutchfield has a good selection and price range to fit your needs. I usually get a deck thats 129.99 because they will send you instructions, mounting hardware, and wire harness for free. also you will get free shipping.

as for the decks, i would go with this:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-9TcnM2X...0&I=130DEHP390
or this:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-9TcnM2X...00&I=099CD1000

either one is fine. if you are going to add seperate amps for speakers and subs, then i would suggest the pioneer because it has 3 sets of preouts, which you can add 3 amps to. the eclipse only has 2 preouts. both decks will have mp3/wma support. if your budget is higher, i can suggest others.

Awesome, thanks ::

I saw an Alpine one today I might pick up. It was around $100 or so, I figure that should do the trick.

I appreciate all the help.
