Amp & Sub

Didn't see anything in the forums and no one responded in the actual RL thread so im trying here, I have a 97 with a base head unit WITHOUT the CD player, just the stock cassette player, but since its already running through an amplifier, i was wondering if I am going to have to buy a converter or something to connect to the original head unit (no mutli CD) or if im going to have to get a new head unit.

Also I'm sure more than one of you in here have a sub in the trunk, and was wondering how badly its gonna be pissing me off when i hear my trunk rattle, or if its actually going to be some what sturdy against the bass. It's just going to be a 1200watt system with a 1000watt amp so I hope it wont be too bad.

just a 1200watt? that's a lot, already. also, your going to need a 1200watt amp to match the 1200watt sub. may i also recommend a 1.2farad capacitor. as for the rattling noise, depending on your amp, there should be a dial/button there to set up the frequency/etc. to how you want your bass to sound, solid bass or not? up to you. just remember the more solid the bass is, the less rattling you'll get.

Yeah its 2 12's pushing out 1200, but the amp is going to run 1000 only because its a sick ass amp apparently, and I dont want to run the subs on full, cause 1000 is going to bump enough, and i'd like these to last for a while while im saving up for a sick set up in an Evo VIII so i was just seeing how solid the trunk set up is, cause i hate these ricer fa66ots rolling around with thier chassis rattling with thier crap ass much 600 watt systems.

As far as rattling, just about anything pushing that much wattage will make it rattle in one place or another.

As far as coverter vs. new head unit, quoting CA&E you can always do a converter, but you'll be much better off with a new headunit cus stock sucks. At the end of the day, you'll be looking for more expandability and you'll end up with a converter that you'll either have to try and sell or hope for another vehicle you can throw it onto.

Personally, I'd just hunker down the few hundered bucks and get yourself a nice head unit, harness adapter, face plate kit and good wires.
