Blinkers gone wild!!!
Hello all! My wife has an 2003 TL Type S and just yesterday the blinker sound starts going off on its own. It sounds like it would if the bulb is blown, a very rapid clicking sound, only the blinkers are not burnt out. I have not only verified all lights work, but when the sound starts going off, the blinkers aren't lighting up. It flashes as it would when you hit the turn signals, but when it randomly does the fast clicking the outside lights are not flashing at all. Anyone have this happen? Its gotten much worse today. Relay maybe?
TIA John |

Did you check the fluid?
![]() Sorry, I couldnt resist. Seriously the clicking sound is only a relay, I say remove the signal relay and drive it. If the noise still happens keep looking if not put a new relay in and see if that solves it. |

Back on topic, this morning the problem has gotten worse. Now the flaher comes on the second you start the car! You can't turn it off either, and again, all the lights work fine. I didn't wanna look like a jerk that forgets his signal is still on so I took the S10 this morning. Anyone have this happen to them? My wife called Acura and they have never heard of this happening. Go figure. |

Update:
I used my coworkers car and put the blinker relay from my Acura into hers to see if the problem would happen in that car to prove it was infact the relay. Too bad it didn't. Worked perfect, but I'm not 100% convinced since its so random it could have just been I didn't leave it in her car long enough. So I'm thinking it may still be the relay, but could also be something else. DOH. |

Also, she lives about 1 1/2 hours from me so meeting up with her to swap relays again would be a big waste of gas. Honestly I'm pretty sure its not the relay anymore. When I put it in my coworkers car and played with her turn signals for the 5 minutes I did I couldn't get the problem to happen, yet when I put the relay back in my wifes car this morning the blinker went crazy immediately. So if it was the relay I wouldn't think it would have not done it in the other acura. Now I'm thinking its a problem in the turn signal switch... I will keep you guys posted. |

Ok, so I just got back from vacation and I am ready to tackle the problem. I priced out a headlight/ blinker switch @ $33.79.. not bad. So now Im on the hunt for a write up on pulling the steering wheel and column apart. I did a search here but didn’t see anything, and the DIY part of the forums doesn’t seem to work period. Anyone have a factory service manual? I would just start pulling stuff apart, but this is my Wife's car and I would rather not crack/break anything.
![]() Thanks again! |
