2002 1.7 Stereo Problems
Hey guys,
SO I have a 2002 1.7 EL, love it. Problem is the other day I started it up, and noticed the stereo didin't come on, just reads "CODE" then like a little number beside it. Never had this problem before, and not sure what to do. Rifled through the manual, and it says something about reprogramming the codes. Anybody know what they are talking about? On a second note, I have a pYramid DVD/CD/MP3 deck that his been sitting in my bassment with a sub. Maybe I should just through that in there instead? Has anybody replaced their stereo with an aftermarket one, and was it difficult? I have replaced many on my old chevy cav back in the day, just bought the kit, a few screws, and no problems. But that is an american car. Are these cars the same? never really looked into it. Is it worth my time and effort, or is it genually a pain in the ass that may affect the computer system. Thanks in advance. ~J |

The CODE means that the stereo must have been disconnected from the battery. You need to enter in a 4 or 5 digit code so you can continue using the stereo again. If you bought the car new, you should have been provided with the code on a card the size of a credit card. Apparently Acura can get the correct code for your radio, but they will likely charge you for it. This is the "anti-theft" feature of the stereo, so it is ever got stolen and was disconnected from the battery, without the code to reactivate it, the stereo is useless.
The only minor issue I have seen people come up with on aftermarket stereos is that it doesn't fit snugly into the space on the dashboard. If you look at the shape of the factory stereo, it's not exactly rectangular in shape. The right side is angled slightly. |

Yeah, no worries. I found teh code in my manual written on one of the pages on a sticker from the dealership.
Probably gonna install my other deck in there in a few weeks. Just wanna find the right harness kit for it first. Thanks!

Next question - >
Does anyone know where to find a proper wire harness kit for my aftermarket stereo (2002 1.7 EL). I noticed the factory deck has a bit of an angle, and all the kits are just rectangular, thus, I think it wouldn;t fit in properly or leave a gap. Any kits that are made specifically for the EL's?

I found one at Future shop, got my aftermarket stereo in, and doesn't sound good. Gonna try another one in a few weeks.
Thanks for the reply. You were right about the stereo having an angle on the side. The first kit I bought didn;t fit in properly, but I managed to find the proper one. I appreciate the help. Thanks again.
