Acura CSX Type S - IT'S OFFICIAL

Hi Guys!!

I hope you're OK.

YES - there IS going to be an Acura CSX Type S.

"Acura announces new, Canadian-exclusive CSX Type-S compact luxury-performance sedan.

TORONTO, Oct. 20 /CNW/ - A new performance version of the Acura CSX will
be launching across Canada on November 6 with the introduction of the
high-performance 2007 CSX Type-S compact luxury-performance sedan. The Acura CSX Type-S will be an exclusive product for the Canadian market with a
Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price of $33,400.

"Last year Acura launched its all-new CSX compact luxury sedan as a
gateway product to Acura's family of luxury vehicles," said Jim Miller,
executive vice president, Honda Canada. "The new Type-S model will serve as a gateway product to Acura's performance heritage for those Canadians who want both affordable luxury and high performance," he added.
Power for the new Acura CSX Type-S is supplied by a new 2.0-litre,
197-horsepower i-VTEC engine that features "intelligent" valve-control systems for optimum engine performance. "There was a time when the
100-horsepower-per-litre benchmark was an exclusive calling card of race car
engines," said Miller. "Now, the CSX Type-S produces this kind of power in an
engine that will be favoured for its top-end performance and range of power."
The CSX Type-S 2.0-litre engine, mated to a close-ratio 6-speed manual
transmission, also delivers good fuel economy. It is rated at 10.2 L/100km in
the city and 6.8 L/100km on the highway. It features a Tier 2 Bin 5
low-emissions rating.

The CSX Type-S also features drive-by-wire throttle control, 4-wheel disc
brakes, vehicle stability assist with traction control and a speed-sensitive
electric power steering (EPS) system for sporty driving performance.
All CSX models benefit from true four-wheel independent suspension. On
the Type-S, the sport-tuned suspension is designed for a performance-oriented feel to meet the demands of driving enthusiasts. The Type-S suspension includes stiffer springs, firmer damping and more tightly controlled
suspension movement with upgraded stabilizer bars at both ends - increased
from 24 to 27 millimeters up front, and from 11 to 17 millimeters in the rear.
The Type-S rides on performance-rated 215/45 R17 tires.
Distinguishing the new model is specific Type-S badging, a rear wing
spoiler with integrated LED brake light, fog lights, and upgraded 17-inch
alloy wheels.

Inside are other design cues such as leather-trimmed seating with
high-contrast stitching and embossed Type-S identification, metallic-finished
pedals, and the Type-S logo on the floor mats. By night, there's even a red
hue to the ambient lighting. These stylish expressions are a preview of the
advanced technology, high performance, improved handling and greater driving enjoyment of the CSX Type-S.

There is more to the Type-S than just power and performance. For
instance, the Acura Satellite-Linked Navigation System with bilingual voice
recognition is standard equipment. It allows choosing the most direct route or
looking for alternatives that avoid major highways altogether. The bilingual
voice recognition system can respond to nearly 600 voice commands. Voice
commands can also be used for such functions as climate control and audio
system settings. This is not something found with other cars in this price
range.

The CSX premium audio system pumps out 350-watts through seven speakers - including an 8-inch sub-woofer. Beyond AM, FM and CD compatibility, Acura also enabled the system with a digital audio card reader compatible with MP3 and WMA audio files plus an Auxiliary input jack for iPods(R) and similar music playback devices.

The Acura CSX Type-S is designed to be a stylish expression of advanced
driver technology and heart-racing performance. It combines standard interior
amenities and quality, plus a full complement of standard safety features,
including six airbags and an Advanced Compatibility Engineering(TM) (ACE(TM)) body structure that uses a network of load bearing front-end members to disperse collision energy throughout the entire body structure for enhanced
occupant protection.

Acura is the technology advanced performance division of Honda Canada
Inc. Six vehicles (CSX, TSX, RDX, TL, RL and MDX) are marketed under the Acura brand, including the new, exclusive-to-Canada Acura CSX luxury compact sedan. Both the Acura CSX luxury compact sedan and the MDX luxury sport utility vehicle are produced at the Honda of Canada Mfg. facility in Alliston, Ontario."

I would rather go with the new Civic SI sedan and not pay an extra 10k for the litttle extras the CSX gives. Either way, i still enjoy he car. Too bad i'm un the US and we don't have the CSX.

With the CSX Type S in Canada, we probably will not get the Civic Si sedan. It would seem kind of pointless.

$33,400? Damn, that's expensive!

The dollar to dollar conversions don't work out...we always end up paying more for cars in Canada than the U.S.

Put it this way: for less than $1000 more, one can pick up a 244HP leather trimmed Honda Accord EX-V6 instead of a CSX Type S. The Accord EX-V6 MSRP is $34,200.

Like I said, expensive.

That's true; that is very expensive then.

Over in the US, you can do the same - that is pick up a v6 accord 6-spd leather for about 1k more than the civic SI sedan - but that's the going price, not MSRP.

Hi Guys!!

Here is a scanned copy of a CSX Type S photo found in a mini-brochure I picked up while at my Acura dealer. Still no 'front-end' photos to be found - for some reason. Maybe it looks funny - and Acura is ashamed!! lol

Notice that in the little write-up it mentions a 'limited slip differential'.

I disagree when most people find CSX type S expensive. Just compare this car to other car models with their horsepower, package(s) and price;

Acura CSX type S, 197hp at 8000rpm, sunroof, limited slip, navigation pkg etc. all for $33,400 vs;

Acura TSX at 205hp at 6000rpm at $35,900. if you want with navigation pkg at $38,700 yikes!!! only a slight difference of 8hp between these two cars. too expensive.

Acura RSX type S at $33,400. same msrp with csx type S but without HID and navigation and a difference of only 4hp between the two. and rsx comes only with two door and this car have been phased out of the acura lineup for 2007. i'll miss this car cauz it's a fun car to drive though.

Mini cooper S with 168hp at $34,100!!! that's a lot of money for a two door car and without navigation pkg. it's very tight inside, car insurance is higher and not practical.

Mazdaspeed 3 at $30,995. comes with 263hp, limited slip, HID, 18inch wheels etc... but without sunroof and navigation system. a very good deal!?!??! but to some it is still a "mazda" cauz it lacks the refinement compare to acura. but the auto critics love this car.

VW GTI with 200hp price at $29,375. if u add up with sunroof, navigation pkg, leather seats comes to $32,650. not bad of a deal but this car is two door. i heard there will be gti four door coming in next year but i'm pretty sure the msrp will be higher without the navigation pkg.

The nissan se-r, i heard is due early next spring. nissan have not revealed features, specs and pricing for this car but it is something to look forward to. the 2007 sentra styling is very dull but same goes with acura csx. i heard nissan cars have been improving a lot every year.

as you can tell, i have done my homework since i'm ready to trade in or sell my 2003 mazda protege 5. so acura csx type s is a good deal and definitely the car on top of my list and mazdaspeed 3 comes second. after all, when comparing csx vs the cars above, the main selling point for csx type s is navigation system comes as standard.

I just have to wait for sentra se-r coming next year... and then i'll decide.

As stated above, you can get a 244HP Accord EX-V6 for less than $1000 more. It doesn't come with navi, but you do get VSA and traction control, leather, and it is a larger vehicle with much more HP.

The comparable Civi Si coupe is over $6,000 less, sans navi, VSA, and leather, but with the same engine.

One of my friend owns a 2004 acura tsx and i test drove it and i have to say it was really fun to drive. the 6 speed manual shifter is so much fun and i thought honda offers one of the best shifter out there. but correct me if i'm wrong, the tsx model have been running for four to five years now and i have a strong feeling 2007 is the final run before it gets a major facelift and major engine changes comes in 2008.

thanks for the heads up on honda accord ex-v6. I looked it up at honda canada website. it has greater hp, decent msrp cost, and best of all, uses regular gas!!! but the accord v6 comes only automatic and i want a greater hp with manual transmission. only the states where u can get accord v6 with manual trans. whereas, the honda civic si is an awesome deal and basically sharing the same engine with acura csx type s. but it's too bad the honda civic si only comes with two door coupe in canada and only the states that have the availability of civic si four door sedan.

basically what i'm looking for is a four door sedan, 200 or more horespower, it has to be manual trans, sunroof, under msrp $35 grand, and most importantly fun to drive!!! navigation pkg is a huge plus since i drive a lot in and around bc and the states.

well, if you know a better car please let me know, otherwise csx type s is the one for now.

if i do make a decision to purchased a csx type s, just maybe i get a better looking body kit but definitely will order a set of lowering springs. the rims look pretty decent for now... i guess.

Yes, the TSX is due for a redesign, but since when does that mean it has become a bad car? I'd still buy back my 1996 Civic over a 2007 Cobal, price notwithstanding. The 2006 TSX so far has outsold the 2005 model at this time last year. Car & Driver has had the TSX on its 10 Best list every year since it was introduced as a 2004 model. Now that's longevity if a 4+ year old design can still compete with the new model coming out.

Good luck on your search for a car. Ultimately, it is you who decides if you are getting a good deal on a car.
