BASTARDS! I know what you mean, my TL's rear alignment was off by 1mm and when I drove to BC and back (I live in Manitoba) I noticed there was major major tire wear on both the left and right rear tires so I brought it in obviously... they put up a bit of a fuss about replacing the wheels for me, however, I insisted that they replace both tires and rotate the fronts to the back free of charge or I would do everything I could to damage the dealership's reputation and they "caved" after that and did as I told them to, sometimes you have to be a stubborn prick to get what you want done... although I didn't feel comfortable while I was doing it because well, for most of life's little problems I can't be bothered, I'm a pretty easy going guy... That and I really didn't want to pay the several hundred dollars per tire to replace them myself after owning them for only a couple of months... now the front alignment is off as there is a pull to the right... I just can't seem to enjoy this vehicle as I should be able to... damned thing only cost me upwards of 50 grand... I mean shit!!!

Hmm this is all interesting. I can't recall if our car is doing it. I'm getting to the point of not giving a rip anymore as we are leasing it and won't be keeping the car. Our dealer likes to "pooh pooh" things off too. We've had some little things that have annoyed us with the car and basically we get old that it's normal. Interesting that my friends EL doesn't do that so I guess it's not as "normal" as they think. On the topic of brakes...around 21k, we had a problem with our brakes...when going at faster speeds (115km/h) and starting to brake, the steering wheel would vibrate or shimmy. It would only do that until about 105km/h and then back to normal braking. We were told that our rotors were warped if I remember right...something to do with the rotors though and they machined them and basically told me that when it does it again (and they told me it will) that we'll have to replace them. Now I know that brakes wear depending on how the person drives, but has anyone else experienced premature wear and tear. By my predictions, we will need new rotors by about 40k which seems a bit odd to me. Any feedback is welcome!

I am at over 85,000km and have not had any brake work done other than regular servicing, not even changed the brake pads yet. Overtightening the lugnuts on your wheels can lead to warped rotors, and a lot of people and even shops don't use a proper torque wrench when securing lugnuts back on.

I'm having the same sound happening in our car (2004 EL). I think I might mention it next time it goes in for service, or if it becomes more regular, but I'm not going to get too concerned with it as we return the car in a year so it will become their problem. I know that we've come across problems where they can't duplicate it which I agree is just their way of saying we have no clue why it's happening.

Anyone have the reference numbers or link(s) to the brake TSBs?

Hope everyone who wrote on this post earlier is still checking it...
I have an 03 EL with about 45,000km on it. It is our only vehicle and gets driven to and from work every day. Had a large brake job completed in February this year at around 40,000km. We live in St. John's and our daily route does require going over numerous hills on the way to work so I wasn't terribly suprised by the need for some new brakes. However, after all of this work was completed we started hearing the following noises: 1) Brake pedal 'clicks' when depressed and you can feel a small tap on your foot when it clicks. I believe Win and a few others noted a TSB on this earlier in the post. I mentioned it to my dealer and they assured me no such TSB existed. To which I would love to give them a TSB number and stick it in their face. Anybody ever manage to get that TSB number? 2) Front and rear brakes creaking, popping, and clanging when vehicle slows to a stop after about 10-15 minutes of driving. Since February I have brought the car in six times had 3 new sets of front and rear rotors replaced in under 5,000km of driving due to warping, and the latest batch has started making the same noise as well. After the second batch I told our dealer that changing the rotors was only fixing the symptom of the problem and not fixing the cause of the warped rotors. To this he responded 'we've never seen anything like this before and never had a car go through so many sets of rotors in such a short period of time. It must be the way you are driving it.'So I'm in between a rock and a hard place here -Despite the fact that we have the extended 5 year Acura plus warranty our dealer has decided that the cause of our warped rotors is the way we drive the vehicle and will not be covered under warranty anymore. There is only one Acura dealer in St. John's and the next closest dealer is a 2 day drive to Halifax - so going elsewhere is out of the question. Anyone have any suggestions? |
