Civic Si Sedan vs Acura CSX Type S

Hi Guys!!

How can the price difference be justified?!

In the U.S. - a 2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan with Navigation has an MSRP of $23,635.00 U.S. And that includes the destination and the PDI fee.

Converted to Canadian dollars - that's $26,785.54

The 2007 Acura CSX Type S has an MSRP of $34,680. [Including the destination and the PDI fee]

That's a difference of $7,894.46 Canadian.

As far as I can tell - the ONLY difference is that the CSX comes with leather.

[Are there other differences I should be aware of that might justify how much more we are being asked to pay for the CSX Type S?]

Some people have argued [When I have talked about the unfair disadvantage Canadians often have when it comes to the MSRP of vehicles] that 20+ years ago when the Canadian dollar was worth a LOT less than the U.S. dollar - Auto manufacturers were LOSING money by selling cars in Canada. I will say what I always say to that argument. Bullsh*t!!

That unpleasantness aside. It's really NOT FAIR - is it?!

Craig!!

i totally agree. basically honda civic si sedan is our version of csx type s but the only problem we are paying more. why??? i'm guessing honda canada did not want to bring civic si sedan here because it will have conflicting sales or it will steal away the acura csx customers since both cars share the same platform except obivously the civic si sedan have 197 hp vs csx have 155 hp and most likely it will be priced just as the same with the csx. I also think the honda canada people is very confident with the higher price tag with the csx type s because, remember the acura brand is considered as a premium high end brand and even have been compared to bmw, audi etc... and acura is getting a lot of positive praises among car critics and it's customers and as long as there is a high demand from the consumers, acura have the advantage and have the full power to jack up the price.

You can't directly compare prices from the U.S. to Canada. Look at the pricing of ANY car between these two countries. There is a significant price difference.

Does the Civic Si sedan have VSA and traction control? I guess that's where the extra money is for.

Spyder is right. The price conversion between US and Canada in not a good way to judge. You need to judge it against cars in the same country. If you look at the Civic Si coupe in Canada vs the CSX Type S, you are paying around $6,000 more for the CSX Type S.

Going back to the US vs Canadian pricing, a friend at work did that same conversion for a Porsche...can't remember which model, but he found that in Canada, we would be paying about $33,000 more for the same model! You can buy a Honda Accord with that much money!

We pay the same theoretically, since there's always a 7000 increase for no reason. Each car has it. The RDX forces you to pay 8000 more for a premium, after the exchange rate. WIth the dollar, it's easier just to buy a car in the states and drive it back.
