Clunk noise in Frt End & Question

I have an '05 EL and it has developed a clunk in the front when I let the clutch out, or back off the gas in 1st and 2nd. The dealership discovered a crack in the front motor mount and it's been replaced but the noise is still there. It seems to related to the cold weather. A suggestion was that it might be a strut but the dealership isn't too willing to start replacing struts because they can't locate the source of the noise.

Any suggestion?

Also, question: I'm thinking of boosting the horsepower with either a turbo or supercharger. Is there a preference for my particular engine?

I remember in my EL, that when it was cold, yes there would be an occasional clunk, which I had always believed was just the suspension being a little bit stiff in the cold, but mine happened when the supsension would move, even just a little bit. But when it warmed up, it just went away.

With a visual inspection of the struts, you can tell whether they are blown if you see they are leaking. Did the dealership at least look at the struts when you suggested that? Being a 2005 model, I assume your car is still under warranty. If it really bothers you, get it taken care of any way you can while you've got the warranty. If your current dealer won't do much for you, go to another one.

There are currently no superchargers available for the D17 motor. Numerous turbo kits exist. Google up Dezod Motorsports, they sell the most reputable ones.

Sorry for not writing sooner but life is busy.

Thanks for the info on Dezod. They sell the kit with pistons and rods...is that advisable? Greddy sells only the kit without them.

Riceboy...I think I have found the source of the noise. The inside left front brake pad is moving vertically in the caliper...about 1/8" and moving by hand makes the same noise only not as loud when listening to it from under the car. I suspect that the noise is amplified through the suspension etc.

I'll know for sure it it's the culprit in about 2 weeks and let you know.

Thanks for your help.

The Clunk...

It turns out that the clunk came from the left axel. Apparently there was too much play, but not sure if it was the CV joint.
