Front Suspension Problem
Hi all,
I've been riding on stock suspension for close to 3 years now and I notice that I am feeling the bumps alot more at the front end of the car. Occassionally when I pass through a bump and such I hear a dull thump, something similar to the sound of dropping a plywood board a metal crossbeam. I'm also hearing a bit of rattling from the engine compartment when I apply the gas on my car. I'm wondering if this is a sign that my front suspension is shot or if something else is wrong in the front end of the car. I still have warranty on the car for about 1.5 months and I can probably get them to repair the problems. However, I do have a Neuspeed front strut bar so I'm worried that the car dealership might blame my strut bar for any front suspension problems if there are any. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, AC15

It does sound like your front suspension is shot, although I thought by the 2004 models they had corrected the problem struts.
Your strut bar should have nothing to do with it at all. If anything, it helps your car. You could always remove it before you have the dealer take a look at it. Since it's still under warranty, take it to your dealer. You don't want to be paying for new struts out of your own pocket (it's somewhere in the neighbourhood of $750, with installation included!), that is unless you want to get aftermarket struts anyways. |

thx for the advice
yea it does sound like it... car feels slightly unstable at highway speeds and i can feel any unevenness on the roads pretty well... i believe they have already recorded me down as having installed a strut bar from previous services... in case they do blame the strut bar on me, will i have a case against them?

I don't think they can make a case for the strut bar having anything to do with your struts failing. The bar doesn't have any physical contact with your suspension.
Otherwise, go to another dealership (since it's still under warranty), and take the off before you do, just in case. |
