Body style is slightly different (the CSX uses the JDM and Euro Civic body style). The horsepower difference comes from a DOHC engine (right out of the base RSX) whereas the Civic utilizes a SOHC engine.
The CSX also has: - retuned suspension - 16" wheels/tires - electric power steering - automatic transmission has paddle shifters - available leather seating - available satellite linked DVD navigation with voice recognition - available HID headlights - turn signals integrated in side mirrors - remote control trunk release - automatic climate control - better warranty |

We have the EL right now and Acura hasn't convinced me that the extra's are worth it. My wife and I have both said that when our car comes off the lease, the Civic EX model is more bang for the buck and even though we could hop into the base CSX for just a little bit more, it's better to have all the bells and whistles that come with the Civic EX.

The CSX is moving slowly out of the showrooms. It is not selling in nearly the numbers the EL did, and part of the reasons are that the body styles are very close to one another, the interior is practically identical, and it's fairly pricey compared to what the EL sold for, and what the current Civic sells for. They also probably should have kept the EL name. There are people who know very well what an EL is, but have never heard of a CSX.

But a lot of those "bells & whistles" are things that if you were to go aftermarket, you wouldn't pay that much. Like I'm sorry, but spending $150 for something to put my dirty feet on? That's just stupid. Or paying Honda to put a remote starter in when I can get an aftermarket one for much cheaper. (The floormats make me laugh the most)
The sound system that comes with the Civic isn't bad, and if I wanted something with more to it, once again, I would go aftermarket and get something of high quality that is worth the money. The EL base system wasn't too bad, and I believe the new Civic's match that (things just get better with newer technology). My whole theory here is that you can get the top model Civic which comes with all the nice stuff (cruise control, moonroof, power windows/locks/mirrors, heated mirrors) and pay approx $23k + taxes, or you can go with a base CSX which comes with all of those (minus the moonroof I believe), but a "better" engine (depends on what you're looking for), a more luxurious reputation, and better warranty. So it all depends on what you want. I've gone with the EL for the past 2 1/2 years, and I had driven our company's fleet of Civics for 3 years before that, and when it comes down to it, the Civic is just as nice as the EL and it's all a matter of preference and how much having some "nicer" things is important to you. A side note too, we have the Premium EL and the Touring CSX is more expensive than it was brand new. |

It depends how you drive the cars though. More or less. For my dad, it wouldn't have made a difference, lower price would have been better, but for him, he found the Honda more noisy and the EL wasn't all that bad compared to it.
However for me, if i were in a Honda, chances are i'd probably not be able to walk...out in the east where it's all curves and straight stretches with noone, i've litterally launched the EL into a corner, and i KNOW for a fact, there is no way i could do the same with the Civic. I don't get the same feel in the Honda as i do in the EL. So as a normal driver where you don't really bring out the Acura instincts...don't go for it. But if you plan to show some cars with higher price tags, that you're not a pathetic Honda...then go for the CSX and tear up the corners. |
