looking to buy 2002 or 2003 1.7 EL

Hi

I'm looking to get a 2002 or 2003 1.7 EL with roughly 70-80000km ... just wondering what are the problem areas I should look out for when going to used car dealers (i read about front suspension issues)... around that mileage what should I check for that needs to be changed (water pump, timing belt??)

Also, is it worth it to get the extended Acura warrantly (~1000$ for 3 years) - if I buy from an Acura dealer?

thanks in advance!

Welcome to AcuraWorld!

Water pump and timing belt changes are not due until 176,000km, so you would still have a ways to go (unless the car spent most of its life in say -20C weather).

2003 would be the one to go for if you can find one. There should be less problems with the suspension, the suspension was retuned for a slightly better ride, the rear outboards seats have larger adjustable head restraints, automatic climate control was added on the Premium model, and the dashboard guages were upgraded with electroluminescent lighting.

As for the warranty, I think most problems wouldbe worked out by 70,000km. It depends if you drive a lot, then it may worth it for peace of mind. $1000 doesn't sound too bad, considering on a new TSX (since I recently bought one), it's $1500 for 3 extra years, for a total of 7 years.

Good luck in your search!
