Rust proofing - good idea or bad idea?

Hi guys...another question...is it worth getting a car rust proofed? The Acura warranty is 5 years on that aspect (4 on corrosion) and Acura Canada doesn't recommend it as it could affect the paint and that wouldn't be covered under warranty. Of course the rust proofing companys (RustCheck etc) say that their products don't do anything to the paint or it's colour. So who do you believe? We obviously don't want rust, but I also don't want my black car to become some other colour. The dealership offers a service, but it costs 8x more than the annual guys. Also, do the chemicals used affect any other systems i.e. electrical, shocks, struts etc?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
