03 Type-S...problems first day of owning...help!

First off want to say hello, and have been a fan of the 02-03 type s for a while now. With gas prices the way they are and with me driving a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer SS with lots of "go-fast" goodies installed my wallet is taking a beating with gas.. So I decided it's time to make the SS a "toy" 2nd vehicle and get me a sedan for everyday driving.

found a NICE 2003 TL Type-S w/ 73,000 miles and after some negotiating I got the price to where I wanted it plus warranty. I signt the papers hand them check and im off.

6 miles down the road engine starts sputtering and misfiring and im gettin little "knocking" sound from under black engine cover towards the left side. VSC light comes on as does the "triangle" lookin light with "!" sign in it. Take it back to dealer and tech hooks up computer. Reads P0301-05 Engine/cylinder misfire. Manager said he would take care of me and that he has had several problems lately with the new porter getting "too close" with the high pressure hose when cleaning engine bay. Coil packs and plugs/wires getting messed up..

Could this be the cause of my problem??? was kinda pissed about all this as i haven't even put 10 miles on it yet. Warranty is covering everything so thats not an issue. I just want to know what the hell the problem is ?? THANKS GUYS!!!!

he's probably right, if they were washing the engine with a high power washer the coil packs can leak water down inside and cause that problem.

Same thing happened to me when my town had basically a flood and I drove through a really big water puddle. Engine got wet and the acceleration was very sluggish for the next few days. Eventually it cleared up, I guess the problem wasn't too bad where a coil or spark plug needed to be replaced.

I had the same thing happen to mine. The egr passages were clogged. If your remove the plastic cover on top of the engine and remove the plenum cover you will find it filled with carbon. use some throttle body cleaner and a soft scraper to clean the ports...

Good luck

That's a different code... and if memory serves, the indicator is a flashing TCS and Check Engine together when the EGR codes pop up.

The EGR passages under the plenum need to be cleaned every 70 - 80K miles.

I'd go with the dealer's assessment. But being a cynical type, I'd inspect the coil packs after the repair and make sure none of them have any signs of arcing/carbon tracking.

Well, just an update. Took it back to dealer and they cleared the code and inspected the coil paks. I was there when they did it and they showed them to me. SO after a month of driving the car drives perfect and the codes or problem has not come back. Im thinking some water got in there and it just took some driving to dry it up... Haven't had ANY issues since then.

Good to hear, thanks for the update.

How's the transmission holding up? Has it been replaced yet?

Trans was serviced by previous owner when they received the letter from acura. It shifts fine and im going to put a transmission cooler on it pronto. I have a 100K mile warranty on it that I purchased when I bought the car at 73K miles. So I have a warranty till 173K miles so Im really not too concerned about it.. If it goes it goes, not much I can do about it.
